Sunday Symposium: Moral values?
In my world - as a stay-at-home mom living in the Riverwest area of Milwaukee - I see a lot of progressives/liberals with very strong family values. I interact with families in this community through neighborhood organizations, schools, church and play- roups. These are people who are very careful about what their children eat, read, watch and do.
These progressive families - mine included - make many financial sacrifices so they can be with their children as much as possible. Many of the families choose to have one parent stay at home, or both parents work part-time, or they choose jobs with flexible schedules. The point is: We are progressives, we voted for John Kerry and we have very strong family values.
Conversely, there are plenty of conservative families - people who voted for President Bush - who focus on getting ahead financially over spending time with their children; let their children watch any sort of TV programs and movies and play video games with all kinds of immoral themes; and let their children dress and eat however the child chooses regardless of modesty and health.
Typical granola heads.
Interesting article... while staying home with kids is great if that is something the family thinks is important I don't necessarily equate that with having values. Having values is something different to me -- it is much more than that. This looks like something crafted by the DNC to combat their anti-values image.
since you have strong moral values, you should easily be able to embrace president bush and his agenda. i am at terrible unease because you have come to view your piece of the world as a microcosm of the united states. unfortunately, it is not. i know some people who can help you deal with reality. please call me.

Not to mention condoning an adulterous liar.
No doubt that $1000 per child tax credit just upsets her no end.
Liberals and family values is an oxymoron. This is just insipid chatter.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO she's an expert on conservative families is she? Beyond our moral and Biblical values, we also value freedom, hard work, the Constitution of the United States, personal responsibilities (even when we screw up), language suitable for public use, apple pie, guns, pickups, and everything else that made AMERICA GREAT. WE LOVE AMERICA!!! P.S. we don't believe in marching around like a bunch of idiots trying to force everyone else to approve of our sex lives...we keep them in the bedroom and private!
[Conversely, there are plenty of conservative families - people who voted for ] blah blah blah
When liberals talk this way...they really mean "I met ONE family that voted for Bush..."; sounds like blatant generalization to me. Lady sit down and shut up.
"progressive" = liberal in disguise
I imagine my "brass knuckle" squirt gun would be considered beyond the pale, too...
LOL, I'm glad I didn't run into you.
Her idea of financial sacrifices is voting for the school levy, even if the school is wasting money hand over fish.
Just saying you have values holds little water when you then get behind groups such as the ACLU who defends the rights of NAMBLA while trying to destroy the Boy Scouts.
Saying you have religion means little when you then bitch about the Pledge of Allegiance, and Nativities on Courthouse Squares.
Saying you look out for the "little guy" don't mean SQUAT, when the give the OK to a doctor to deliver a child 75% of the way before you thrust forceps through the base of its skull and suck out the brains.
Liberals don't have it in them to understand how others feel about these things.
"Values" include NOT allowing a TRAITOR to be president. What is so hard to understand about that?
True, but I would start with the basic value of not wanting a common liar to be president.
I'm sure that moral values were important. But, remember, the same exit polls that showed the importance of moral values also showed Kerry winning in a landslide. I tend to think that Bush won because of the war on terror and the kind of man he is.
That is exactly right. Liberals flatter themselves if they think Red Staters give a bleep about what they do in bed. I can't imagine a more boring topic than the sex lives of liberals.
Nothing like a good generalization to narrow things down.
