WHEN THE H*LL WILL WE DEFUND NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO?
KPFK | 11-7-04 | dfu

Posted on 11/07/2004 3:01:13 PM PST by doug from upland

While doing some painting today, I wanted to listen to some talk radio. Unfortunately, Sunday is not a good day for talk radio. The only thing I found on was . . . . . KPFK -- public radio.

I listened to "Counterspin" and "Spotlight Africa." I was in the vomitorium.

I hadn't listened for awhile. These people are nuts. I wanted to throw my radio.

The anti-American and anti-conservative and anti-Bush crap that they are putting out on the air is overwhelming and sickening. Because I believe in free speech, I don't advocate that we shut them up. But I don't want to pay for it. Let them compete in the arena of ideas as we do.

One show was attacking our election. Of course, we cheated. Both Americans and foreigners are claiming that. One foreign "expert" said that our election would not even pass the test in Africa. Who in the hell do they think they are to tell us about how to run an election. For well over 200 years, we have had peaceful elections.

Our war is racism. Blah blah blah. With Bush in charge, it is like they are on the plantation again. Blah blah blah. It was another stolen election. Blah blah blah.

A caller from San Bernardino said that the African nations should withhold their oil from us. He wants demonstrations in the street and strikes. He does not want to accept this election.

When they are finished in Fallujah, I want the Marines to prepare a siege on KPFK. I don't want to pay for this any longer!

A lot of the money comes from state funded local affiliates, though. Nebraska Public Radio, for example, pays NPR for programming, and in turn is subsidized by the State of Nebraska.

Lobbying at the state level might be effective.

Does that include money that goes from the government into other organizations and from there gets steered into public radio? True, either way, they don't need $10 million seed money, $10 million endorsement, or anything from the federal gov, much less more than that. Another thing to look at is special treatment by the FCC.

It's no better here in Vermont. I used to listen to NPR for the sake of the classical music. But there's no classical music left. It's all left-wing talk shows and third-rate jazz, and third rate anti-Bush jokes on Prairie Home Companion.

I've always liked good jazz, but I'm beginning to hate the very sound of the stuff they try to shove down listeners' throats, no doubt because they think it's politically correct. What ever happened to Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane? Whatever happened to Mozart, Bach, Hayden, and those guys?

The ONLY excuse for public radio was that it was educational--that it broadcast stuff that was good for people and that wasn't commercially feasible. Whatever happened to nonpolitical discussions on informative subjects? History, geography, philosophy, art, cooking, almost anything but POLITICS ALL THE TIME.

Now it's nothing but POLITICS ALL THE TIME.

"only 10% of their $100mil budget is public money, the rest comes mostly from corporations and the balance from beg-a-thons. $10mill is still $10mill too much money."

Are you sure about this? The left is very sneaky about phrasing their explanations about funding so as to mislead the Rubes (us). For example, the United Way tries to convince suckers that their donation won't go to left-wing wackos if you check the right boxes on the contribution form. This is absolute nonsense, of course.

I wouldn't be surprised if NPR didn't have some similar misleading arguments.

Doug

KPFK is not an NPR station. Its the LA branch of the far-left Pacifica network. They have a station in SF and one in NY. I could be wrong but I believe it's privately funded although its possible it may receive some federal grant money and, if so, I agree they should cut it off.

Bingo! The best way to soak the government is to hide the routes that the money takes. Democrats have probably turned this into a science.

NPR and Federal involvement in public education seem to share the attribute of "should be wiped out, but won't be."

I listen to Car Talk, With Heart and Voice and Jazz on my local PBS stations. That's it. I used to love Garrison Keeler, but not anymore.

Oh, but they were so hawkish when Clinton was bombing Serbia. Killing white Christians is so cool, so not racist, they can clap each other on the shoulder and congratulate on how liberal and progressive they are.. You are right, they make me vomit too.

Changing the subject slightly, Bush should beware of any Democrat help in his efforts to allow public funding of religious volunteer programs. Look at what the gay marriage issue has done to a lot of church denominations. The left may be small, but they're often the first there with the most men, (to paraphrase someone the left reviles).

I used to be against NPR, but I've realized that it keeps the Left in their fantasyland. If they had to venture out into the private sector they might learn to be more effective. Why take their kool-aid away from them? It's not like any swing voters listen to that biased junk. We still want to have NPR and a few other liberal institutions to kick around for awhile. Better strategery to let them all have ether kumbaya sessions.

Actually, I think isolation keeps people in their fantasyland. But NPR is just about everywhere except the most rural areas. NPR/PBS/etc is subsidized left-wing evangelism. There's nothing good about it.
