The "Why I voted for Bush and why I am not stupid thread."
http://www.freerepublic.com ^ | 11/06/2004 | self

I have homosexual friends.

My kids have homosexual teachers.

On my street are many homosexual couples with children.

I am a lifelong Southerner.

I own guns.

I like country music, opera and Bruce Hornsby and the Range.

I love dry red wine. I also love beer. I also love single malt scotch.

I have a college degree from a very liberal urban school.

I prefer veal to hamburger, pork tenderloin to hot dogs.

I love the Waffle House.

I can do the New York Times crossword puzzle in fifteen minutes.

I understand derivatives.

I trade futures.

I am one of those stupid, ignorant Southerners who voted for Bush.

Why is there a trend for journalists to be pushy, rude and obnoxious?

There are some journalists who live on my street. They seem nice enough. As long as they keep to themselves and don't try to interview me we get along fine.

What were you before you became a journalist? Did your aunt ever kick your butt at the Scrabble board? Does that explain your fascination with words and letters?

Did you know that there are organizations that can help journalists reform and live useful, productive lives?

Don't get mad, Happygirl. I'm just trying to be helpful.

Equating voting for Bush as being somehow 'it's O.K. to be gay and conservative' as a "good" thing isn't working.

It's not O.K. to be gay. Deal with it.

I voted for Bush because I think I understand the Muslim threat, and I think that Bush is in a unique position to defend our country.

I think that Bush honestly and truly loves America. I also honestly and truly love America. I think that Bush will work to try to make America stronger, which might not make us popular with the rest of the world, but long ago days in grammer school have taught me that popularily and "being right" are not always the same things.

The Bush campaign has changed my position on Abortion. I used to believe that Abortion was solely a woman's decision and that the state should have no say in it. However, after a lot of research and a little sole searching, I'm now against abortion. Not just third term abortion, but the general idea of abortion. There are certain instances where it should still be legal (ie, rape, incest, etc) but I really think that we need to stop using abortion as a form of birth control as a society.

I used to be very "turned off" to politics. I used to see the Republician party as being a party of censors and hypocrites. I'm thankful that as I have grown a little older (I'm 31 now) that I'm starting to have a more informed understanding of these things. And, as one begining the steps to wisdom, I'm thankful to have voted for Bush this time around, when back in 2000 I was still a Democrat voting for Gore.

>I know that intelligence and education are utterly worthless without wisdom, common sense, love for others, a sense of humor and deep humility.<

Well said. I think this sums up the differences between those who support President Bush, and those who look down on said supporters.

- Went to NYU to study Experimental Theater.
- Marched in the "No Nukes" Rally NYC 1979 with the Bread and Puppet Theater.
- Factory job - strong UAW supporter.
- Laid off repeatedly (despite COLA wage adjustments).
- Spent the late 70's watching Carter's malaise speeches.
- Saw the cities' crumbling accelerate under Dem rule.
- Got married had kids.
- Night school got my BS and MBA.
- Watched Reagan screechingly halt inflation and cut taxes.
- Reagan let me save MY money and spend it as I saw fit, which gave me the wherewithal to help others.
- 9/11 opened my eyes that much of the MidEast desperately needs to be brought, dragged kicking and screaming if necessary, out of the Middle Ages and into civilization. (q.v., Iraq).
- By the grace of God, am healthy and reasonably happy.
- I voted for Bush.

Hey libs - I been there done that. Don't get locked into your know-it-all-ness. I thought I knew it all, but since then I've continued to study and learn

I dare say it was the real idiots who voted for Kerry. Like little children, they refuse to understand things they don't want to know - i.e., that terrorism can't be conquered with summit meetings and expressions of good will - it has to be crushed entirely. As such, voting for Bush was a vote for a more realistic approach - to scare the hell out of the terrorists and kill them. It's not stupid - it's a matter of survival.

Regards, Ivan

You know, divorce/adultery/lust of the flesh/coveting your neighbor's wife has done infinately more damage to our social fabric than homosexuality has. Our churches target gays because they're such good targets, and sweep the issue of divorce and serial monogamy under the rug. If preachers ragged on divorce the way they do on gays, two-thirds of the pews would empty out in a big hurry.

And lest I be flamed, I'm straight and Christian. Never divorced, so I get to be self-righteous on this one. //puts on asbestos undies//

Bush got the vote for million of women in Afghanistan and Iraq. I think that if women's concerns are heard in politics that the tribalism will go away and people will be more concerned about making their lives and their children's lives better.

Also, my husband always took away the channel changer when I watched FOX. Showed him!

How about some more contradictions?

I am a college dropout.

I am unemployed since being laid off due to outsourcing/offshoring.

I am heterosexual but sexually perverse (Dominant in a BDSM relationship).

I qualify for Mensa, but refuse to join. I do enjoy going to their pub crawls though.

I have a gay roommate. He voted for Bush.

My best friend is a Mexican-American Texan (he voted for Bush too).

I own over ten firearms and presently have about 2000 rounds of ammunition to keep them fed on my frequent trips to the range.

I am an agnostic and an ordained minister.

My favorite hangout is a gay owned and operated coffee house at which I am frequently the only heterosexual or Republican.

I am equally amused when reading Nietzsche or Dave Barry.

I simply do not have the neccessary level of gullibility to vote for someone who says he is a patriot, when everything in his life to this point indicates he loathes my country and everything for which it stands.

Don't worry Mabel, they won't believe it if you post anything about intelligence because they honestly (if honesty is possible with liberals)think conservatives are incapable of intelligence.

I like this thread. It is an antidote to the bad press all conservatives constantly get. It assures us that we are associating with good people who are accomplished in life, not the idiots and losers the press would have us believe. I'm very proud to be a freeper and a conservative.

I dropped out of college in the first semester of my Freshman year.

I actually worked to set up an Al Gore rally in '92 at this college.

I dropped out to start my own business

Business does over 10 million a year in sales, employs 10 people

In the car I only normally listen to classical music

My favorite city in the world is Paris

I am a road cyclist like (John Kerry)

I love college football and basketball.

I hate beer and don't smoke, I only like wine or liquor.

I don't go to church.

I have never fired a gun, but I am a member of the NRA.
