You have probably heard the idle chatter: ''I'm thinking of moving to Canada." It sounds so alluring. Good beer. Cheap Viagra. Hardly any crime. Friendly, if somewhat ineffectual, people. Terrific, if underappreciated, novelists. (This means you, Rohinton Mistry.) Secure borders, courtesy of the US Department of Defense.
But before you pack, consider this: There are plenty of reasons not to move to Canada. Let me count the ways.
1. They don't really want you. Canada is full of losers like you. If you're really rich, or a brain surgeon, maybe. But if you are, say, a newspaper reporter, be prepared to wait at least a year just to live there legally, and several more years to become a citizen.
If you have some special qualifications, like a PhD, plus a lot of work experience, and if you are under 50, you have a better chance of crashing the gates of Snow Mexico. Or if you're loaded. That's right. If you have a net worth of $800,000 Canadian or more, and are willing to invest $400,000 of it in Canada, come on in! And you thought George Bush's America was a plutocracy. . . . Think again.

I have to wonder what the county map for Ontario is. I'm sure the cities are leftist - Toronto, Missauagua(sp), Hamilton, Niagara Falls, London, and Windsor are all Liberal or NDP, but outside of that, I'm not sure.

I wonder what happened to Canada; we used to enjoy visiting there but no more.
During the Iranian hostage crisis, the Canadians assisted many Americans to escape Iran.
My son, who was in the Navy, was stationed overseas and he told me the Canadian pilots who stopped off there always brought beer and steaks for them - just plain, nice people.
If we look at the state of California, we see it is mostly red and perhaps there are a lot of red areas in Canada as well - perhaps they have a Kerry in charge.

Yeah - tell him you were just sitting peacefully at home watching one of your Queer Eye for the Straight Guy DVDs, when a couple of Jesusland agents came up to your house on their bicycles and asked if were interested in (gasp!) hearing the Word of Jesus Christ as put forth in the Book of Mormon.
And then, after they left and you drove your hybrid down to the organic market to pick up a warm soy milk to calm your jangled nerves, you passed by a church and it (horror of horrors!!!) had a cross outside!

Liberals are apparently racists. Why wouldn't they want CA to be part of Mexico--they're much closer to Mexico than to Canada. Must be a racist thing to believe they're better than Mexicans. Liberals=Racists
Might want to remind the "flee to Canada" types that the whole eastern region, Quebec on out, is on the verge of secession. That doesn't leave much left population-wise (Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver).
If most of Canada wants to flee Canada ... ?
If you take the major cities(except Calgary) out of the equation, Canada would be more right-wing than Texas or Idaho!
