The number one thing that sunk Kerry, imo, was "I voted for it before I voted against it." Second was his anti-war record. 3rd was his blatant lying. 4th was his hideous wife. I could go on.

Respectfully, I think that had Franken been this honest and measured before the election and had his candidate had the fortitude to respond to these observations, he would have had a better chance.
The other problem is the class warfare fight. It almost cost Truman the election and it's not a great idea as a nation ages (and in doing so, invests more heavily in the market).
