>>"Just a question. If the Indians are citizens of a sovereign nation, how can they vote in a U.S. election?"<<

The same way Peurto Rico has a national basketball team.

Huh? Thune has increased his lead by about 2,000 since I last checked.

Hold off on all this pessimism please... The Dem fraud machine pulled out a whopping 3000 votes from the reservations at the last minute in 2000. This time he has be pull almost 4 times that amount. This ain't going to be as easy. Don't believe that this is going to happen considering that Russert reported that Harry Reid has already lined up the votes to be the new Dim leader. Reid wouldn't be publicly telling anybody anything if this was still in play.

Dunno. Daschle's toast, though. The lawyer factor, however...

As soon as all 120,000 votes from the 12,000 Indians are counted Daschle will pull it out.

Yes, and there won't be a single mention of that discrepancy in the New York Times.

Of course not. They will be too busy trying to rig the results in Ohio...another election theft by President Bush you know.

In Florida (2000), the Republicans proved they had better lawyers than the Democrats. In law, quality counts more than quantity.

That's great, but it does not explain how a people who are considered members of a sovereign nation are allowed to vote in another country's elections.

You're right. I just grabbed the first article that seemed like it would answer your question. I'll find you another one. :-)

My question is really a rhetorical one. I think the whole basis of the "sovereign nation" thing doesn't make sense.

I don't know what that article says, but I can tell you right now there is such a thing as dual citizenship in about half the countries on the planet.

If you're a citizen of more than one country, you get to vote in both countries' elections.

Indians get to vote. Deal. We're up by 9K votes with only 27 precincts left, by my last count.

I think the technical term is "dependent nation." They have limited sovereignty. For example, they may not sell Indian land, not without federal approval. OTOH, they have many of the usual rights of citizenship, such as voting. I think that was decided in a series of USSC decisions.
