I voted this morning around 9:30 AM CST in Precinct 307 at the Nassau Bay City Hall under a light rain. Nassau Bay is a residential suburb near the NASA Johnson Space Center southeast of Houston, Texas. One of the illustrious residents of Nassau Bay is John O’Neill of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth fame.

After the recent Texas redistricting, Nassau Bay is a part on US Congressional District 22 represented by US House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. It was a real pleasure to vote for Rep. DeLay this election after being represented by Democrat Nick Lampson for many years under the former districting plan (barf). I really hope that Republican challenger Ted Poe defeats Lampson and sends him packing.

Voting in Harris County, where Nassau Bay is situated, is done entirely with the eSlate electronic system and it was very orderly and efficient this morning. About 40 voters were at the polling location when I arrived, but there was only a brief wait in line of no more than ten minutes to complete the process of voter authentication and sign-in. There wasn’t any wait to find an available voting machine. There were lots of happy, smiling poll workers, election judges, and voters. It was a very cordial and pleasant experience. I didn’t see any Republican or Democrat activists outside the 100 ft limit of the polling place but that’s not unusual here. The lines of waiting voters were starting to increase as I left the polling place.

On to Victory for George W. Bush!

I voted early in Lago Vista last Friday. 554 for that day, and huge turnout for all the early voting days. My precinct is probably 65% or more Republican, and the skerry/edwards signs and bumper stickers are few and far between.

Say, wasn't there a couple threads warlier this year about Paul Green's campaign being a 'Rat in reality but running as a Republican? I seem to recall hearing/reading that...

Bush won Travis County in 2000, thanks in large part to the heavily Republican western part of the county.

TexConfederate,

Believe it or not, Travis County did actually go for Bush/Cheney in 2000 - the final result was something like 47/42 Bush. I was amazed! The leftwingers in Austin control all facets of local government, and the citizens are mostly liberal moonbats. By my count, Kedwards bumperstickers I see while driving around town outnumber Bush/Cheney bumpserstickers by about 5 to 1. It will be interesting to see if Bush carries Travis County again in this election.

Texas as a whole, however - solidly Bush. Austin is Texas's redheaded stepchild.

Dave

And this is with no serious local issues on the ballot, and almost all races below the President uncontested.

Who is your Congress Critter?.....

KLBJ-AM reporting several women arrested this morning vandalizing Rep. Todd Baxter's home. Baxter caught them in the act trashing the trees in the front yard.

Hope he presses charges.

The only thing interesting about the Texas ballot will be some congressional races, and perhaps a property tax battle of initiatives within the city of Houston.

Mrs. BJClinton and I just walked over to our poll and voted. There were several people having problems with not being on the rolls, claiming to have just moved into the area. They were the typical Sout Austin types: piercings, technicolor hair, faint smell of smoke about them...I didn't stay and see if they were allowed to vote, the polls were packed!

I heard it too. It was something like 5 women in their 30s or 40s with one possibly being a neighbor caught trying to toilet paper the trees.

More "muture" democratic tactics.

dont confuse with "leet speak" which is used by kids, annoying kid gamers and wanna be cool script kiddys.

*warning using leet speak on real tech geek forums will cause you to lose any and all credibility as a geek*

Although l33t speak is just a corrupted form of the English language, there are many phrases and words (spellings) that are unique to it.

0w|\| or 0wn3d - One of the most popular l33t words it is very loosely defined as beaten or can simply be an expression of awe, for example, 'I 0wn3d you' means 'I have beaten you in a very humiliating fashion', or '0wn4ge!' which means 'That was (or is) very nifty'.

w00t - Derived from 'hoot', this is defined as 'yay', it can be used, for example, upon victory or, possibly, the release and procurement of a new video card.

13wt - Treasure, good merchandise, possessions, a misspelling of loot. Most commonly referring to pirated software, items in a game or promotional giveaways.

h4x0r - Hacker, can be used for a real hacker or simply a very skillful person. This is the most common occurrence of the -0r clause.

ph33r - Fear, most commonly used in such phrases as, 'Ph33r m3!' or 'Ph33r |\/|y 1337 sk1llz!' It can also be written as, 'ph34r'.

sk1llz - Obviously derived from 'skill', referring to skill in some type of online game, programming or hacking. Many times used in conjunction with 'm4d'. As a general rule, if one has sk1llz, one is to be ph33r3d.

m4d - Mad, mostly used as a descriptive term meaning great, for example, 'h3s g0t m4d sk1llz'.

j00 - You, commonly used in such phrases as, 'j00 d34d f00'.

f00 - Fool, one who isn't very bright or skillful.

j0 - Yo, as in the greeting.

d00d - Dude; an expression of comrade, or just used to address a random person online.

sux0r - Sucks, as in '7h1s sux0r', one of the few common examples of the -0r clause.

l4m3r - Lamer, someone who is lame, someone who uses an unfair tactic or generally makes the things around him or her less fun.

n00b - Short for noobie, misspelling of newbie; someone who is new to something, or just not very good at it.
