I like Santorum's optimism, but one thing that sticks in my mind is the GOP performance in 2000. In one of the more unusual scenarios in the U.S. that year, Santorum won re-election to the U.S. Senate while Bush lost to Gore. How does one explain the large number of Pennsylvanians who cast votes for both Gore and Santorum?

Santorum is Catholic. He got Reagan/JFK Democrat votes. His opponent was weak, too. He was no Fast Eddie.
