When will we start getting election results in?

Posted on 11/01/2004 5:41:41 PM PST by stuck_in_new_orleans

At what time do the polls close on the east coast?

And what time do they start announcing the winners, and do they usually announce the winner the minute after the polls close? I know state races for govenor and senator they will keepa running tally for a hour or so, do they do that in Presidental elections or do they just blurt out "The poll in ____ just closed and ____ is the projected winner"???

sorry, but im young and although not new to voting, I never followed it this closely....thanks!

If I recall 4 years ago, Drudge started with some exit polling information by mid-day.

Just keep watching Judy Woodruff's facial expression's.She always gives up the exit polling data around 2:00 eastern time.If she starts looking like she has gas pains...WE WIN!
If she is happy,I'm gonna start drinking again.

I'm an election officer at a poll here in Louisville, KY. I can tell you first hand that our results will be transmitted to the local Board of Elections no later than 6:15pm EST tomorrow evening. Many other cities in Kentucky are on Central time so you probably won't see a projected winner until 7:15pm EST or so for the entire state. However, get ready to shake those RED STATE pom-poms as Bush is already polling high here -- we expect to put 8 electoral votes on the board for him tomorrow night!

Early indicators are for a Bush Landslide

While I would LOVE to be wrong about a landslide, I don't know about that. If anything, I think W would win by the skin of his teeth. However, I find it disturbing what I've been hearing about the "moods" of the 2 camps--Kerry's is apparently jubilant, W's quite the opposite. Is this just gossip put out by liberals or what? Because quite often times, you can tell, especially just before the election, which side is going to win by the demeanor of the candidate, their campaign and their surrogates.

I wouldn't know myself, as I've not watched anything that has to do with politics (including local news) for over 2 weeks.

At 5:00 central time you will hear Indiana and Kentucky have gone for Bush, followed by the MSM saying that it doesnt matter because those are Republican strongholds and that Kerry is doing better than expected. Followed by the gnashing of teeth at 9:00 CDT.

Listen to Rush at noon. if things are going badly for Bush, the RNC will call him with exit poll results before his show so he can try to rally turnout on our side. Just like in 2000, when he came on the air and warned how close it was, and told people to vote, and call friends/relatives.

also a good indicator - if Judy starts looking like someone is giving her an enema on the air, you will know Bush is doing well in the exit polls.

Thank you for that. Live overseas and have been trying to figure out approximate times for results and when we can expect a W VICTORY!

Not that I'm aware of. There's nothing at the Florida election results site.

or do they just blurt out "The poll in ____ just closed and ____ is the projected winner"???

The networks have been known to call a state before the polls even closed.

well, four years ago you could really hear it in his voice as he signed off, reading "Bush in a Squeaker."
