MIAMI People broke out lawn furniture and reading material as they got in very long lines on the last day of early voting in Miami.
About 500 people stood in the sweltering sun at the Miami-Dade County elections department, where the wait at midday was more than two hours to cast a ballot.
One person says Floridians are used to it -- saying it's like standing in line at Disney World. Others said they simply wanted their ballot to count, fearing a repeat of election problems four years ago.
Early voting ends at three p-m in Miami, but anyone on line at that time will be allowed to cast a ballot.
Elections officials say about one-third of the county's one (M) million voters will have voted early -- either by going to a polling place or voting by absentee ballot.

I was wondering if all the normal polling places are open in early voting, or just certain places.

I hope many wearing Kerry pins leave and decide not to bother voting.
To: jackdude
I believe it is only certain places. We will not see lines like these tomorrow, when regular polling places are operating.

Why is it bad if Kerry voters don't vote?

"I hope many wearing Kerry pins leave and decide not to bother voting." I wonder how many of them are there to actually vote? Maybe they have artificially made the line long to discourage Bush voters.

yeah, there are only a few early voting places, so the lines have been very long.

No, they are not. In Dade county, only 14 places are open for early voting. Thus the long lines.

In our county in Florida, there are only 9 polling places open for 600,000 voters.
On the other hand, we have about 400 precincts and polling places.

As an example in my area on election day we have a polling place every 15-20 blocks. Early voting the whole city of 30,000 has one place open.
