I would like to invite as many paople as possible to Fast and Pray on Monday, Nov. 1st for the re-election of George Bush on Tuesday. This election is a crucial one in our nations's history and quite possibly may effect the survival of our country and way of life. In the Bible, fasts were proclaimed in order to devote time to prayer and let God know that you were serious about what you were praying for. In Esther's time, a fast was called to save the Jewish people from Haman's treachery.
"Esther 4:13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Esther 4:15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
Esther 4:17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. "
And again in Isaiah 58
"5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rearward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."
If you could ping any list you have and email everyone you can, let's get God's attention on Monday.

A one day fast is nothing...
Definitely with you. The Lord has put it in my heart since last week.
Pray and fast.
Then don't do it. (Hebrews 11:6) This is not a contest.
The pharisees thought the widow's mite was nothing as well.
here it is
I will be fasting as well.
Hear our Cries O Lord. Do not deliver us into the hands of those who mock You and take Your name in vain (Kerry pretending to be a believer trying to pick off Christians from President Bush)
"YOUR MERCY, O LORD, WILL HOLD ME UP. IN THE MULTITUDE OF MY ANXIETIES WITHIN ME, YOUR COMFORTS DELIGHT MY SOUL. SHALL THE THRONE OF INIQUITY, WHICH DEVISES EVIL BY LAW, HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH YOU? THEY GATHER TOGETHER AGAINST THE LIFE OF THE RIGHTEOUS, AND CONDEMN INNOCENT BLOOD. (ABORTION) BUT THE LORD HAS BEEN MY DEFENSE, AND MY GOD THE ROCK OF MY REFUGE. HE HAS BROUGHT ON THEM THEIR OWN WICKEDNESS; THE LORD OUR GOD SHALL CUT THEM OFF.
I am not saying that the one day is pointless. I am saying it is not very difficult to do.
I will join the fast.
Oh Heavenly Father, thank you for the countless blessings you have bestowed upon us all. Only through Your Word and Your Guidance do we receive the bounties of Your Love.
Please guide my hand and the hands of all your humble servants in selecting the earthly leader of our nation in tomorrow's election.
Please help us to understand Your Will through the outcome, and please bless this nation and the world in these trying times with Your Love and Mercy.
Through our humble prayers we seek Your Will and do Your Work here on earth.
Amen
sign me up
Dear Lord,
Today is the day before an election that will shape so much in the days ahead.
Lord, we come before you with prayer and fasting, asking you that you let your will be done,
We ask that Mr. Bush be reelected if this is your will.
We ask that our country be protected from our enemies if this is your will.
We ask that those who would disrupt this process find their hands bound by your mighty hand,
and most of all, kindle in us the fire of your love,
and help us to live out our Christian witness this day, and always,
Amen.
Amen!
1. Pray that God will forgive the sins of our nation and will have mercy on us and our nation. Isaiah 54:10 and Psalm 130:7
2. Pray for our president that no weapon formed against him will prosper. Isaiah 55:17
3. Pray that the Lord will deliver us from evil. Matthew 6:13
4. Pray that the Lord will once more bless us and give to us a leader who serves God with his whole heart and a leader who seeks the face of God before making decisions for our country. Psalm 33:12
5. Pray that the Lord will lay it on the hearts of his people to become a part of this election and cast a vote for a man who names the name of Christ and who prays daily for the nation.
I'll be fasting today with you.
Psalm 46
Prayer at Time of Trouble
1 God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble.
2 And so we need not fear even if the world blows up, and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam; let the mountains tremble!
4 There is a river of joy flowing through the City of our God-the sacred home of the God above all gods.
5 God himself is living in that City; therefore it stands un- moved despite the turmoil everywhere. He will not delay his help.
6 The nations rant and rave in anger-but when God speaks, the earth melts in submission and kingdoms totter into ruin.
7 The Commander of the armies of heaven is here among us. He, the God of Jacob, has come to rescue us.
8 Come, see the glorious things that our God does, how he brings ruin upon the world,
9 and causes wars to end throughout the earth, breaking and burning every weapon.
10 "Stand silent! Know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation in the world!"
11 The Commander of the heavenly armies is here among us! He, the God of Jacob, has come to rescue us!
"Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places." ~Psalm 135:6
"But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased." ~Psalm 115:3
"There is no one besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these." ~Isaiah 45:6-7
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." ~Romans 8:28
If God is Sovereign, Does That Make Him Responsible For Evil?
Q. 7. What are the Decrees of God?
A. The Decrees of God are his eternal purpose, according to the counsel of his will, whereby for his own glory he hath fore-ordained whatsoever comes to pass.
"Gods works of providence are his most holy, wise and powerful preserving and governing all his creatures, and all their actions." ~Westminster Confession of Faith, Shorter Catechism, Question 11
Judge not the Lord by feeble sense
But trust him for his grace.
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.
Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.
~"God Moves in a Mysterious Way" by William Cowper, 1731-1800
I just had some banana nut bread. I knew I was to fast today November 1st.... Is it okay to do a fast after I ate something?
Sorry, I made myself an english muffin and a scrambled egg with coffee and came in to check Free Republic.
"Re: Fasting for The Election on Monday To AlGone2001 | 11/01/2004 8:35:47 AM EST sent I agree, a one day fast is a short one, but for some, as you can see on this thread, it is difficult. And for others who have never tried it, they have no idea what to expect. Top of Page

"Re: Fasting for The Election on Monday From AlGone2001 | 11/01/2004 8:44:58 AM EST read No disrespect. I find it lame for you take issue with me publicly and then go private mail to close the conversation. You need to get the facts before you lambaste others on this forum. Let's end the fight and get on with winning this election."
Anything else you want to get off your chest?

Yes, fast by giving up lunch...or giving up meat or some other thing you really, really like...
The catholic guidelines are 1 regular meal, then two small meals that don't equal a regular meal in size...
Of course, if you have dietary problems, you have to work within the scope of them...
Bread and water is considered by many to be the best fast...it's easier in some ways to do a bread and water fast and harder in other ways...
The concept is, "God, I will deny myself for you, in repentance and perhaps in penance."
Some things cannot be cast out without prayer and fasting...and in Jonah, it saved Ninevah...May our prayer and fasting save the US....
