Backlash Draft

Posted on 10/30/2004 12:45:16 AM PDT by Earthdweller

Has anyone else picked up on the new word on the street from the military that if Kerry is elected they will not serve another term under him? This is scarey. If 75% of the military quit..who will protect our country in a few years? The liberals? What is the real possibility of a draft with Kerry?

Probably be the last Viet Nam fragging---of course I'm not serious---they'd be honored to follow such a decorated veteran

Kerry also said something about military action needed (in his opinion) in Sudan. As Clinton did, Kerry will put our Army in a place like that with too little support and a force too small to complete their mission. Democrats are notorious for waffling on needed materiel in conflicts.

"They refuse to serve a traitor OR any people who would elect a traitor."

I think you have hit upon the thinking processes of many in the military which is "why should I risk my life for a people who would elect to put someone in authority over me who has no respect for my risk and my sacrifice and someone who is going to hand the power in my nation over to known enemies." I really believe that the "common sense" folks are fed up. Did any of you hear the call from the Irish man to Rush Limbaugh yesterday? What intelligence this guy had. He had the ability to put into words who John Kerry is and he told how Kerry wanted Ireland to relent to those terrorizing them by giving them positions in the government. After listening to this call, one could not keep from knowing that a Kerry win would bring negative dynamics into our government which we have not experienced before and which I think would lead to great civil unrest in our nation. It is all quite scary.

You said it very well. Those moms who think a vote for Kerry will keep their 'kiddies' safe are in for a rude awakening: Look for the draft, and expect it to include women.

I am a reservist on active duty. I voluntarily extended for a second year that is up in early February. I am contemplating on extending for another six months but I will wait until after the election. If Kerry is elected we will lose many first term enlistees (they won't reenlist) and people who are near retirement (20 years) will not remain after their twenty. Most mid-career people will probably remain because they have too much invested and can hope for a change in four years.

It's not just the draft. What about the service academies? We have no oath/pledge/promise in place at any academy that requires a graduate to take a combat position over, say, a tour in grad school (by which time the combat-need might well have ended). This problem exists regardless of who wins the election.

I've heard that about his "National service for all" drivel. In a parallel universe, it would almost be hilarious to see Kerry get in, military numbers plummet, and then see the sons and daughters of the libs who voted to get their precious little liberal in the White House flee to Canada.

But only in a parallel universe--not this one.

The draft question and the attention given it shows that the public is not as gung-ho to conquer the world for the sake of democracy as our leaders would like us to believe. Terrorism has to be held in check, but large national confrontations are going to be few after Iraq. This will require less military manpower than more. We are not the chosen few to rid the world of all evil. There is a Higher Being that has that problem to contend with.

It will be the Voters fault. Maybe they should consider the wishes 75% of military for Bush, of the men and women that protect us.

If skerry would win this election, he is a mean ,vicious little man. The Major from yesterday will lose his commisssion. The officers in afganistan will be fired,( for show) and Iraq Generals will probably be courts marshaled. So don't blame the military. Blame the voters.

My wife said her retirement papers go in at the end of January if Kerry wins, she says she will under NO circumstances serve under a Kerry administration.

"Our soldiers will uphold their oath to the country and the constitution no matter who wins."

Please don't forget us veterans. We took that oath too.

I've got 10 years in E7 and I probably won't re-up.

I was a liberal puke in college (if I could go back in time and meet myself I'd probably kick my own ass)who bought into the whole Clintonion service ethic. I didn't do Job Corps or Habitat For Humanity, I did a hitch in the Army as a 19D Cavalry Scout. Then I did another, and another...

Out of college and facing reality, I started to see the truth. The liberal Democrats were having REM play their birthday parties and rock and roll was in the White House, but they were giving away the store. I could not justify what was happening to the country to my fellow soldiers. When Clinton lied to us about Monica Lewinski that was the nail in the coffin. How do you justify something like that to someone who lives the creedo Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage? This is our boss? Kerry is Clinton X10.

I was planning on getting out 3 years ago but re-upped again after 9/11 and have since done a tour in Iraq, but now I'm back and I'm done. If things get really bad and they need me I'll go, but there are some really big battles that need to be fought here at home, and I can't sit back and watch.

How 'bout the JEB man? Keep it in the family, ya know... :-)

He's smart, he doesn't take any bull, and has been a superb FL governor.

In a lecture,(at 42:30 in the video)Joe Scarborough was asked what he thought about Jeb running and, he said, "He's one of the brightest guys I've ever come across in politics...brilliant guy...is probably as well-versed on foreign policy as his father was, but is more articulate than either his father or his brother." (Interesting video)

And that if in 2008 we saw a Jeb v. Hillary "I believe it would be the seventh sign, locusts would begin descending from the heavens, eating the flesh off of everybody in Washington DC..." because Democrats have a visceral reaction to the Bush name, and vice versa with the Clintons.

Jeb wouldn't let her get away with all the kinds of crap that nasty woman would say. Man I can't stand her.

I ETS'ed in December, 1992. I would have reupped if Bush the Elder had won, but there was no way I could serve under a draft dodger who wanted to impose gays on the military. And Ketchup Boy would be even worse.

True, but the oath doesn't require them to re-enlist. That's where the rub comes, because who in his or her right mind would want to serve under a communist who's betrayed his country and its military once and is itching to do the same again, only on a far larger and more horrible scale? Also, who would want to enlist for a first time to serve under such an abominable traitor?

If Kerry wins there will a rush to the exits.
After all Kerry himself said "wrong war, wrong place" etc.
In his own words " how do you ask a man to be the last to die for a mistake?"

Well, if he wins he gets to do just that, in what will become a self fulfilling prophecy.

I understand what you mean, and agree. However, I think it also needs to be clear that our soldiers place honor, duty and the constitution ahead of all else, and aren't going to abandon the country if Kerry wins. I mean that in sort of a big picture way.
