I'm trying not to panic....but don't know why they'd go to hawaii...if we had our base down, we don't need it.

You answer it yourself, but perhaps without realizing it: If we have our base down there's no reason NOT to go to Hawaii. You don't need to keep pounding away where you are winning, you are better off spending your efforts adding to states you've already got set. If Bush had won Hawaii, or if Hawaii was normally a Republican state, I'd say we were in deep dooo. But Hawaii is as leftist, usually, as my state. If it is truly in play then the odds are more toward a Bush landslide than a narrow Kerry victory.

First off, that's Dr. Smart A$$ to you.

Second, unless you have 600 Republican friends in Hawai'i, then your margin of error is too large.

I think just the fact of someone going makes a statement. I don't think sending the girls would have helped but Pres. Bush or V.P. Cheney might be a play here. If they don't go they might had wish they did. If they do win History in the making.

Also V.P. Cheney my guess will probably make a stop on Sunday before he heads to HI then be in Hawaii Sunday night then leave after the rally and make a stop back in Monday at lunch then Monday night I think they have a stop.
I use to fly from LA to HI and it is not a bad trip and he has a much nicer ride to rest and relax.

I think just the fact of someone going makes a statement....to the base on the mainland. This will be big news Monday morning and unless 60 minutes and the NYT have a story with Bush and a dead girl or a live boy, it will be the leading story on TV. Cheney and Gore in HI. Historic trip. VP goes to Hawai'i on a campain trip. And that Gore guy too. We won't show him, because he looks awful. But he was there.

Remember when Reagan almost ran the table -- and later said: If only we'd stopped in ??? Was it Wisconsin he wanted to stop, they didn't and it was the one they lost.

I think the V.P. will be fine.

Is it possible: Bush is actually up a lot more than letting on but letting MSM show it tight so we'll all stay fired up and determined to get out and vote?

The NYT STILL has something up their sleeve. Frank Rich was way too smug and kept hinting to that effect at the end of the Chris Matthews show. Watch the rerun later and see if you get the same vibe... it's at the end of the show so don't have to sit through the whole thing (I didn't was channel-surfing).

It was Minnesota. Apparently, in the final days of the campaign, Reagan was told it would be a rout and if he made one stop in Minnesota, it could have been 50 states. Reagan decided not to so that he would not purposely humiliate Mondale. He would have been happy to win Minnesota, but didn't want to add insult to injury.

does anyone know where Cheney was scheduled to be before they decided to send him to HAWAII? maybe his schedule was open for just this sort of thing...

Cheney was scheduled for Michigan which he can still do because of the time change...he is scheduled for Colorado on Monday, also doable...He probably will spend Monday nite in Wyoming and vote there on Tuesday...so this is just an added trip to the schedule not a substitute..

On Sunday Cheney had previously been scheduled for Las Vegas and Iowa.
