On Great (Fox News), Bill Gertz said he is coming out with an article that U.S. intelligence stands behind assessment that the Russian GRU moved weapons out of Iraq in the time leading up to the war.
He also said it would take weeks for the story to develop.
See the link at #41.....Not Gertz!!
I was just thinking the same thing. Can anyone remember a Gertz article that actualy led to anything except 12 hours of excitement on FR?
This guy's going to end up working at Newsmax.
"If one of those with inside knowledge happens also to be opposed to Bush's foreign policy, especially the GWOT, or else someone who still carries around a grudge for the GRU (old Soviet military intelligence), then the facts will leak. I can think of at least two elements within the CIA that fit that description. "
Good observation. Goertz obviously got his info from someone who wants to cause trouble for Bush. And considering that Putin is supporting Bush, this would hurt him as well -- he won't be happy if Kerry gets elected.
Wasn't it Gertz who gave us the 25 Chechen's with backpacks crossing from Mexico?
Why would America leave the security of it's country up to the United Nations? All members in Congress and the Senate are killing Americans by supporting the United Nations.
TREASON
Very interesting...good theory as we are mvong in on Iraq, Putin hedges his bets and moves the weapons.
Gertz may not have been thinking about it from this angle.

Missing Weapons? Blame the Russians
October 28, 2004 09:43 AM
The Washington Times dropped to the bottom of the integrity scale by leading with a story that definitively blamed the loss of hundreds of tons of high explosives (HE) on the Russian military. Their story was based mainly on the views of one controversial Pentagon staffer, John A. "Jack" Shaw.
Earlier this year Shaw was reportedly involved in a controversy involving the former Iraqi golden boy and now criminal, Ahmed Chalabi. The scandal involved the awarding of cell phone contracts to three companies with close ties to Chalibi. According to the L.A. Times, he was put under investigation by the FBI.
From reports of Shaw, it would seem that this government employee runs fast and loose. When investigating a contracting matter, he allegedly was refused entry into Iraq and then dressed up as a Halliburton employee in order to gain entry into the country.
Gertz sunk to new lows? I have been reading Gertz for years. If anything he deadpans his stories. It is you who have sunk to new lows. Are you Russian?
"Never ever trust the Ruskies."
Almost sounds like Don't Tread On Me. Keep up the good work!!!
Do you trust the source. Gertz's one and only source for this story is a man under investigation by the FBI. If a Democratic operative based a story on specualtion based on hearsay from someone under FBI investigation we would be outraged.
My theory? I think this is being done to hurt President Bush by certain groups allied to Chalabi who don't like the relationship Bush has with Putin.
"My theory? I think this is being done to hurt President Bush by certain groups allied to Chalabi who don't like the relationship Bush has with Putin."
My theory? I think this story is being put out by patriotic American intel. officials who are sick of Russia getting away with undermining American interests.
Officials? Shaw is the only official. Under FBI investigation.

"Officials? Shaw is the only official. Under FBI investigation."
I just heard Gertz being interviewed on Savage. He has more sources than Shaw. You might want to look into this matter a little further before spinning this in Russia's favor.
Suppose Vladmir Putin is really Santa Claus and wants to give us all candy like so many FReepers seem to believe.
So far his ace source is Shaw. Let us hope his next sources - if they come out - are more reliable.
