Ironically enough, the same-sex marriage issue gives Republicans hope in the Rainbow State.

IT'S THE ISSUE that just won't stay in the closet. Republican politicians run skittishly from talking about same-sex marriage. The polls from Hawaii indicate they should be highlighting it.
Hawaii elects Republicans about as often as the Red Sox win the World Series. Only twice since statehood has a Republican president carried Hawaii (Nixon in 1972 and Reagan in 1984). Yet the latest polls show Bush leading Kerry by a percentage point. National and state Democrats are in a tizzy. How can this be? The unknown factor may be Republican Mike Gabbard's campaign in Hawaii's second congressional district.

On the other hand Kerry must be nervous because Move On and Kerry have been running an ad a minute on local TV here since yesterday.
Y'all too? I'm in Texas and there have been countless Kerry TV ads even here. Looks like Soros has been paying off his pre-election campaign pledge to defeat Bush.
You never know but I don't think Mike Gabbard (although he is a very great guy who helped get the anti gay marriage ammendement passed here) will win and while the President has a chance I think this may be a way for Hawaii to get a voice because it is usually overlooked.
I don't quite understand. If Gabbard loses, Hawaii will still be another taken-for-granted Democrat stronghold. Do you mean if by some miracle he wins, that the RNC might have some hope for the party's chances in Hawaii?
They're also skittish about downsizing government, protecting the borders, eliminating the NEA, Depts of Education/Commerce, eliminating the deficit etc. etc. etc.
Makes you wonder what's left of their "principles".
My hope is that NJ goes for W early and it would push all the way to the coast. MSM will probably hide that news if it happens.
They don't even pay lip service to it anymore, in fact.
Sigh. Only Democrats, kid. Only Democrats.
It will be interesting to see how this Al Qaqaa (sp?) munitions story plays out. I think the potential exists for it to backfire on Kerry. He doesn't look very presidential jumping to the conclusion that it is all Bush's fault well before the facts are in. I heard on FoxNews tonight that the pentagon will release satellite photos tomorrow showing trucks pulling away from the site well before US troops got there.
It is also interesting that Baraday (sp?) released the story to one of the networks, who apparently jumped right on it. So we have the spector of a very high UN official trying to influence a US election with the aid and assistance of one of the major media organizations. This comes, of course, shortly after the phony national guard documents. Wouldn't it be terrific if there were a backlash against all this at the polls?

Godzilla is going to appear on Waikiki Beach on Saturday night and will play a huge guitar set. This will in future be known as the "Rocktober Surprise of 2004".
What is the general concensus of Hawaii concerning Terrorism and the platforms of Bush vs. Kerry?
I would think being one state that is closest to some of the Pacific Rim's Muslim Facist Terrorists that Defense would be a primary concern in Hawaii.
Your insight or other FReepers in Hawaii would be interesting for us Red Necks in fly-over country without sunshine or beaches this time of year!
up your's Mossberg
LOL
I think Hawaii should return to a monarchy. Charge rent. Control borders. Control revenues. Talk to heads of state directly. Heh, heh.
Hawaii may be getting tired of all the gay weddings held there. I understand that's THE place to go for two guys to "tie the knot".
Hawaii is an odd place. Although the culture is very tolerant of gays it is equally fierce about marriage as an institution. Go figgah.
The issue was defeated BIG TIME!
Hasn't there been talk about independence in Hawaii? I keep hearing about it...but I am in California, which will some day revert back to Mejico.
