"Is it just me or is the the Main Stream Media really making a big deal out of the turn over in the Bush Cabinet. If one picks up a paper or watches a news channel on TV every news set has an early lead on the cabinet turnover in the Bush administration. It is hard NOT to draw the conclusion that the Bush Cabinet turnover is an unusual circumstance. It might be revealing to check the records of presidents who have served 2 terms in the last half century or so.
Lets start with Harry Truman. Harry served a little over three and a half years of the Roosevelt 4th term and then served four years of his own term. The next president to serve two terms was Eisenhower. Reagan served two terms as did Clinton. Lets look at their records of cabinet member turn over.
In the Truman era a president's cabinet had 11 members. Truman had 33 people serve in those 11 position. We need to take into account that Truman inherited the Roosevelt cabinet. It is therefore natural that he would replace all the Roosevelt cabinet members with people who shared his views and not Roosevelt's. But even taking that into consideration Truman had 22 people he appointed serving in 11 cabinet positions. if you look at the coverage back then, no one thought it strange that Truman would want cabinet members who shared his views. No one thought it strange that when people Truman appointed turned out to have other views, Truman fired them and hired people who did."
