Head of spy agency points to signs of heavy travel before U.S. invasion
WASHINGTON - The director of a top American spy agency said Tuesday that he believed that material from Iraq's illicit weapons program was transported into Syria and perhaps other countries as part of an effort by Iraqis to disperse and destroy evidence immediately before the recent war.

The official, James Clapper Jr., a retired air force lieutenant general, said satellite images showing a heavy flow of traffic from Iraq into Syria just before the American invasion in March had led him to believe "unquestionably" that illicit weapons material was moved outside Iraq.

GERTZ // THURSDAY // WASH TIMES: Russian special forces troops moved many of Saddam Hussein's weapons and related goods out of Iraq and into Syria in the weeks before the March 2003 U.S. military operation, The Washington Times has learned. John A. Shaw, the deputy undersecretary of defense for international technology security, said in an interview that he believes the Russian troops, working with Iraqi intelligence, “almost certainly” removed the high-explosive material that went missing from the Al-Qaqaa facility, south of Baghdad.

This recent news break joined with pictures possibly. . .

This is the operative phrase. If the Pentagon releases pictures, then the Kerry folks will accuse them of playing partisan politics with classified info. Never mind that kerry says info is being held from the American people, and that the people have a right to know. You watch, if pics come out backing Bush, and the US Military, I guarantee you the rats will try to make the release of the pictures the issue.

Though this is just one young mans hopes and if it happens you heard it here first.

We all hope for the same thing as you do. :) The ball is in the government's court and we can only hope we still have President Bush as our Commander in Chief after the election as we know he'll go after them. God forbid that Kerry would win. Btw, welcome to Free Republic! :)

More folks in Russia than the government, FUR SHUR, and there are those with a pro-Islamist agenda.

You have to recall that a great deal of Russian territory consists of areas wrested out of the hands of the Turks and other Moslems in the 1700s. The Moslems want it back!

They also want Spain returned, SW France returned, Corsica, Sicily and Sardinia returned, Greece returned, etc.

No doubt there are terrorists who can muster "state power" in the former Soviet Union (Russia and it's dependencies) and assist pro-Islamist regimes in the Middle East such as Saddam's.
