Retiring Hollings (Indirectly) Praises DeMint (R-SC) And Predicts Bush Reelection
Miami Herald ^ | 10-26-04 | BRUCE SMITH

Posted on 10/27/2004 3:41:19 AM PDT by The Anti-Democrat

Tenenbaum's Republican opponent U.S. Rep. Jim DeMint is "just a rubber stamp for George Bush," said Hollings, who is not seeking re-election.

"We've got one up there already for Bush in Lindsey Graham. If you want two senators for the president of the United States, fine, go ahead and vote for him," Hollings said. "But if you want a senator for South Carolina, for Lord's sake let's vote for Inez Tenenbaum."

Hollings' remarks make sense only if Bush is reelected. In any event, in S.C., about the BEST thing you can do for a candidate is "accuse" him of being FOR Bush, so not only did Fritz diss Kerry, but he also actually praised DeMint.

DeMint big win in SC. Is Inez Tenebaum part of that disfunctional family in the movie, the Tenebaums? She is such a poseur.

Don't know how true it is... but I've heard rumors that democrats know that Kerry is going to lose the election because Bush is way up in the Kerry campaigns own internal polling and the early voting results that they were counting on to give kerry a big bump are actually running about 52%-B 47%-K 1%-N.

Of course it's best to campaign like we are ten points behind, but with the rumors floating around and now Hollings slip, we may have room for a little optimism.

Is Inez Tenenbaum any relation to Sam Tenenbaum?

Going back to Hollings' remark, that sounds like a Freudian slip if ever there was one. Does he know something we don't? I hope so.

Good Lord, no wonder the teachers were calling meetings in South Carolina schools. Inez Tanenbaum is the head of SC schools? My friend said the garbage they were asking them to sign had Moveon.org and ACORN sponsoring it. This woman running as a Democrat has the public school teachers mobilized for her and I believe they are using public school teachers meetings to spread this crap.

No way I can vote for DeMint after Inez promised he's gonna raise our taxes by 23%.

This is happening in rural WI, too: teachers pushing Kerry and Dems . Some parents have been told that taking their kids out of school for a Bush rally or motorcade was *inappropriate* use of parental excuses. The parents are doing it anyway. After years of the kids of being harassed subtly and overtly if they are Christian or Republican and of parents being threatened one way or another with being reported as *unfit*, I hear more and more stories of parents fighting back.

I used to believe the public schools were necessary as a unifying element in American political life. I now counsel parents to research their rights and support them fighting the school system. We now have 3 Christian schools and a lot of homeschoolers in our little county. We are discussing some sort of remedial history education via a book club format for a few young adults who have been questioning several of us as to what *really happened* in America's recent past (1970s). They know so little, we cannot even discuss the Cold War with them, as they are just ignorant of the dynamics, the countries involved, the leaders, the ideologies. All they are taught about WWII is *The Holocaust*.

A couple of days ago, a young mom was telling me her experience and I reacted by telling her it is time to get in the teachers' faces and tell them to stop the indoctrination and intimidation. We have a school referendum on the ballot and I know a lot of people who are voting against it on the basis that the teachers are not doing their job and so we really don't care if the school's physical plant is in bad shape. No results, no money.

It is easier for those of us whose kids are grown to confront the teachers. The current parents are really afraid the teachers will punish their kids in class for the parents' confrontation and they have reason.

Gov Sanford of SC has pushed a voucher program onto the ticket, which has mobilized SC teachers. Vouchers may be a good idea in principle, but usually by the time the courts mess with vouchers all you've got is a nice idea that fails. Likewise, DaMint has made his campaign around the idea of a national sales tax replacing the income tax, another nice libertarian idea which will sap political resources and go exactly nowhere. It'd be better for a GOP pol to run on something he could actually accomplish.

Which is why I'm a conservative, and not a libertarian. National sales tax? You might as well try to run on controlling the weather.

If everybody says that, you can be sure it'll never happen.
What's happened recently, is the idea is being planted. There isn't a sane person who wouldn't want to get rid of the IRS.
There's a sticker on a stop sign up the road near the Walmart, that says :
Free the Slaves
Abolish the IRS

heck yeah

National sales tax? You might as well try to run on controlling the weather.

It's an idea whose time has come. Destroy the IRS and give us control over how much tax to pay (don't want to pay the tax, don't buy new. Pretty easy)

Everyone I've talked to likes the idea. A Lot!
