Some conservative groups expressed dismay Tuesday over President Bush’s tolerance of state-sanctioned civil unions between gay people — laws that would grant same-sex partners most or all the rights available to married couples.

"I don’t think we should deny people rights to a civil union, a legal arrangement, if that’s what a state chooses to do so," Bush said in an interview aired Tuesday on ABC. Bush acknowledged that his position put him at odds with the Republican platform, which opposes civil unions.

"Civil unions are a government endorsement of homosexuality," said Robert Knight, director of the Culture and Family Institute….

If you think repeatedly posting links to H.R. 3313 is winning your case, you need to go back to your focus group and review your talking points, 'cause they ain't sellin' here.

So this will leave it to the state legislature as opposed to activist judges? It is better I guess than nothing.

Dubya is right to allow the States to decide

Then why are you vehemently opposed to H.R. 3313?

I think most conservatives realize that President Bush has to walk a polite line due to Cheney's daughter. The President knows what the Bible says about homosexual behavior.

Hold on.. as I understand it: Domestic Partnership is a downgraded version of a civil union. Civil Union is a federally recognized partnership. But not a marriage. It's like a secular familial corporation. Larger legal umbrella. But neither is a marrriage. Have you seen the legal "interps" of Vermont Civil Union and MA homosexual marriage? I haven't. Tell me what you have read, pls?

I'm finding his posts useful for collecting a list of the DNC's talking points. I may use this thread later to illustrate what their strategy for splitting Bush's base appears to be. It's pretty transparent. I guess someone thought they were being clever when they came up with it, but obviously, they weren't. That's what happens when you consult Amy Carter, I guess.

I suppose you could use that argument to say that the WOT is more important than stopping the deaths of millions of unborn babies as well.

This issue is as important to me at least as the WOT and I have family members in the military. What kind of country will they come home to raise their children in if the gays and abortionists keep getting there way?

Don't get me wrong WE HAVE TO WIN against these muslims! I am still wondering why we didn't just destroy these terrorist strongholds completely. Bomb all the areas that have become too dangerous completely. Forget them if they don't want us to help them.

In any case we can't forget all the other issues that are important or what are fighting for?

Yes, nice legend that you posted a few days ago to establish your conservative credentials. And John Kerry has medals, which proves he's a war hero. . .But like I said, actions speak louder than words.

You seem to be obsessed with helping the loon win by trying to split Bush's base. Why is that?

"Don't ya suppose that if I vote for Kerry, Bush and other Republican leaders will get the message and NEXT TIME, come around to my way of thinking on that last 2%?"'

I'm not sure I'm really getting the drift of your sarcasm, but never mind that now.

The single MOST important reason to vote for Bush this year is because of the message that the USA will send to our murderous enemies around the globe. That we are soft, and have no stomach for the fight. Even if we thought he was the worst president, the biggest failure as a conservative, the greatest disappointment we'd ever had, we would still need to re-elect him.

Make marriage the only way to obtain benefits and extend it to gays. Then tell all the other "civil unions" that in order for them to have benefits that they currently enjoy from many employers that they, too, will have to get married.

Think that would create some noise?
