Security Council members deny meeting Kerry

U.N. ambassadors from several nations are disputing assertions by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry that he met for hours with all members of the U.N. Security Council just a week before voting in October 2002 to authorize the use of force in Iraq.

An investigation by The Washington Times reveals that while the candidate did talk for an unspecified period to at least a few members of the panel, no such meeting, as described by Mr. Kerry on a number of occasions over the past year, ever occurred.

At the second presidential debate earlier this month, Mr. Kerry said he was more attuned to international concerns on Iraq than President Bush, citing his meeting with the entire Security Council.

"This president hasn't listened. I went to meet with the members of the Security Council in the week before we voted. I went to New York. I talked to all of them, to find out how serious they were about really holding Saddam Hussein accountable," Mr. Kerry said of the Iraqi dictator.

Speaking before the Council on Foreign Relations in New York in December 2003, Mr. Kerry explained that he understood the "real readiness" of the United Nations to "take this seriously" because he met "with the entire Security Council...."

...The revelation that Mr. Kerry never met with the entire U.N. Security Council could be problematic for the Massachusetts senator, as it clashes with one of his central foreign-policy campaign themes -- honesty.

...In recent months, Mr. Kerry has faced numerous charges of dishonesty from Vietnam veterans over his war record, and his campaign has backtracked before from previous statements about Mr. Kerry's foreign diplomacy.

Someone like Powell or Tommy Franks needs to make a public statement correcting this lie and then demand an apology from Kerry to the American people, the soldiers that he has slandered, and President Bush. No apology will be forthcoming, but the point will be made.

Instead, it reported that troops from the Third Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne searched bunkers at the site and did not find the powerful explosives. NBC reported that it was not clear whether American troops searched all of the bunkers. "Last night on this broadcast we reported that the 101st Airborne never found the nearly 380 tons of HMX and RDX explosives,'' Tom Brokaw, the NBC anchor, said. "We did not conclude the explosives were missing or had vanished, nor did we say they missed the explosives. We simply reported that the 101st did not find them.'' *********************************************************************************************** I wonder why Tom Brokaw didn't say earlier in the year... "We did not conclude the Weapons of Mass Destruction were missing or had vanished, nor did we say the Iraq Survey Group missed them. We simply reported that we did not find them.'' Didn't Clinton say to vote for the one who is appealing to your hopes and not your fears. Kerry's entire campaign is built around FEAR.

I fear Kerry will win. The prospect of a Kerry adminstration is frightening and I feel that more and more when I hear his supporters attack Iraq, even talk about the "missing explosives", the 1100 dead, how we need to get out because it's unwinnable in Iraq... I just want to scream. That is exactly the "paper tiger" Bin Laden has called America in interviews. That's how it was under Clinton, how it would be under Kerry, how it was with Vietnam...

Only Bush understands this FUNDAMENTAL and I'm afraid for America and all Americans of how emboldened Al Queda will be if we turn and run. 9/11 won't be a UNIQUE event. We'll turn into Israel/Gaza, into 1980's Ireland, into Lebanon, into Russia/Chechnya. Terror will be a nuisance because it will be so common.
