Thyroid cancer usually is not lethal. But the media gets so hyper. They went into a fit when Reagan had a basal cell carcinoma removed. Those are just removed. They acted like it was colon cancer or some other really serious cancers.

I don't think the abortion issue really helps the Democrats anymore. You have not heard much about it except from PP and NARAL.

Kerry even waffled on the abortion issue during the debate. It is not a winning issue for the Dems anymore.

Even if he survives it's quite likely he'll retire.

This may be played up by the MSM to tout the possibility of Bush nominating Scalia or Thomas for Chief Justice, and nominating a right-leaning justice to replace Rehnquist (with all the doom-and-gloom that they can bring down surrounding such an action). They'll try to prophesize dire consequences in an attempt to chase the undecideds and not-quite-sures toward Kerry.

The president could appoint a new justice to the position of Chief Justice. It usually isn't done, though.

It may not be life-threatening, but I find it hard to believe he won't retire after Innauguration...

Big Prayers for the Chief Justice. Lest we forget, he has fought the good fight against Roe v. Wade from the beginning. He was one of the two dissenters in that most awful of decisions.

That sort of strategy of banging on the importance of nominating a new SC judge sounds sort of like a vulture waiting for something to die. Kerry already looks to much like a vulture. I'd stay away from this if I were him.

Not one we can afford to lose.....I pray he makes a full recovery.

Make sure we get a few more R's in the Senate so the judicial appoinments can get through.

The dems will stoop to another low, that is my prediction.

That was the first thing that ran through my mind.

On the bright side, if Kerry wins Rehnquist will be magically healed. Edwards told me so.

Chill. Following a presidential election, neither side will filibuster a vacancy to the USSC.

Even if GOP only picks up 2-4 senate seats next week, the dynamics in the chamber will change, particularly if Daschle is defeated. The RATS up for re-election in 2006 will not want to be seen as obstructionists.

Additionally, there is simply too much media visibility on a Supreme Court vacancy. The RATS cannot count on the MSM hiding their obstructionism with a Supreme Court nomination.

Do we know what KIND of thyroid cancer he has?

Most types of thyroid cancer are very treatable indeed, but some can be bad.

The worst is anaplastic thryoid cancer which has a median survival time from diagnosis of four to five months; it's one of the most aggressive cancers people can get.

It's rare, but unfortunately, it tends to be more common in older people.

Best wishes for him.

I'm glad to hear it's curable. But if they had to do a tracheotomy, it sounds like it might be advanced. Im no doctor. Maybe someone can set me straight.

If you have to have cancer, this is a type you'd want to have.

Prospects VERY good.

Just take thyroid pills after.
