me

Posted on 10/25/2004 6:54:10 AM PDT by dfwgator

I just heard reports out of Orlando that Zook is resigning and UF has scheduled a press conference for 3:30 this afternoon. Gator Nation, our long nightmare is almost over.

Mississippi State ping! Maybe there is life after all after Jackie. I talked to a friend whose cousin had a piece of goal post from Scott field in his truck. Starkville was rocking!

Besides don't cry for Zook, he's getting paid good money to coach through the end of the season. It's the last coaching gig he's going to have for awhile.

They definately turned the corner on Saturday. Scott Field has been a House of Horrors for UF, even when SOS was there. It's kinda like our domination of UGA, it's something you just can't explain.

So I guess pacifying the boosters and fans was the main goal here.

No. Winning games. Go Gators!

FL has lost their last 4 games at Starkville. :) I was there in...I think '92...when Shane "Mr. Heisman" Matthews was QB and we whooped 'em. Starkville is the only place Spurrier has never won. :)

This is a building block win for Sly Croom. Give him time...he'll make good.

Hell, even Spurrier lost a few he should have won. UF thought MSU was going to be a walk. They put no prep into that game.

I don't want to start any wars with fellow freepers but Penn State was also known for scheduling cupcakes in the pre-Big10 days.

The thing is when you play in a Big Ten, or SEC type conference every game is a potential upset. I realize that the one year they went through the Big Ten undefeated, but after that its been a pretty rough go of things for PSU.

The other factor is that starting a couple of years after PSU came on-board, Big-10 play has dramatically improved across the board. I could not have imagined OSU playing so hard-nosed and hitting Miami in the mouth like that around 1991. Wisconsin has won several bowl matchups, Michigan has, as well as PSU, MSU.

PSU might make the Big East more respectable though.

rumor is spurrier is headed to UK after the season.
Surely you jest! Spurrier hates to recruit. He had all that native talent handed to him in Florida. Didn't have to leave the state. At UK you have to recruit until you're blue in the face (no pun intended). UK recruits against IU, UofL, Notre Dame, UC, UVa, WVU, UT, etc. etc.

You sure Willingham's the problem? I agree more with what Paul Hornung said. It got him into hot water with the PC crowd, but he was right.

It's not so much that UF is losing, it's how they lose. Most of their losses have come in the final minutes. We blew a big lead against Miami, almost blew big leads against Arkansas, twice. FSU beats us with a Hail Mary. Tennessee wins after Florida had two chances to clinch the game by getting a first down when they had 2nd and 2. LSU dominated us, but still won in the final minute, and then of course we had the MSU game. I'm not saying with SOS we would have won all of those games, but we certainly would not have lost all of them in the final minute like we did with Zook.

Oh, BS...

We played Alabama, Notre Dame, Boston College, Pitt, West Virginia, Nebraska, and a host of others.

That's a myth. Fact is that PSU brought the Big Ten UP by opening up east coast recruiting. Problem for them is that they lost their talent pool in the process.

The Big Ten was literally the Big 2 and the Little 8 before we arrived on the scene.

I'll take Spurrier or Stoops, but I'd prefer Spurrier.
Don't hold your breath for either. Spurrier and Foley (the AD) don't get along. Stoops won't leave OU. He's worshipped there! It'll be Urban Meyer coach of the Utes. You heard it here first.

Besides Rich Brooks is as fine of a college coach as there is. If he can't win at UK, the problem is elsewhere (hint: football will always be #2 at UK, unlike the rest of the SEC schools, that will always put them at a disadvantage)

"... and would each year play such teams as Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Miami, Notre Dame, etc. ..."

You forgot the Nun's Convent flag football team and the crippled chilren's home on the PSU schedule in addition to the other high shcool power houses that PSU always had on their schedule.

Why do I think of "My Cousin Vinny" when I see "Utes?"

Here's the latest on Bob Stoops contract. Look like he's under contract until 2010. I believe he's signed the deal but I've been wrong before.

OU coaches get raises; Stoops' contract extended 2004-06-24

By Ty McMahan and Mick Hinton
The Oklahoman

University of Oklahoma coaches and the athletic director will receive a combined raise in pay of about $500,000 after increased compensation and contract extensions were approved by the Board of Regents on Wednesday.

University of Oklahoma regents voted Wednesday: To extend football coach Bob Stoops' contract by a year to Jan. 1, 2010. Stoops now makes $2.3 million annually.

as an european wishing a Bush re.election, who is ZOOK?

Coach of a Florida college football team. And the fact that this matter is important enough to bring all political chatter to a screeching halt just one week before a critical presidentail election is an important insight into the American pysche.

We do have our priorities and choosing the leader of the Free World is definately second tier...

That wouldn't be good news for me. I wanted Urban Meyer for Notre Dame.
