Sun-Times (Chicago) says it's time to shift command to Kerry

CHICAGO (AP) Though President Bush initially faced the war on terrorism head-on, he has lead the country on a course that ``feels wrong,'' and Sen. John Kerry's leadership could give the United States a fresh start, the Chicago Sun-Times said in its Sunday editions.

The newspaper endorsed Kerry and applauded his leadership style, saying he is not a weakling and his moderate views would close the rifts Bush has intensified.

(My note: LIES, LIES and LIES)

``The course America is on today feels wrong our attempts to defend ourselves have somehow drawn the contempt of the world, and we think much of that is due more to style than to substance not to what we've done, but how we've done it,'' the endorsement said.

The Sun-Times, which endorsed Bush in 2000, also said it likes how Kerry thinks even when he changes his mind.

``We want leaders to stay the course only when the course is a good one,'' the newspaper said.

Last weekend, the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald endorsed Kerry. Like the Sun-Times, the Chicago suburban newspaper also endorsed Bush in 2000.

Other newspapers including the Chicago Tribune and The (Bloomington) Pantagraph endorsed Bush last weekend.

Several Illinois newspapers have yet to published their endorsements for president.

The Sun-Times, part of conservative Conrad Black's tattered Hollinger media empire, is the "city" paper, i.e, heavy minority, especially Black readership. In 2000, Black ministers--in a completely non-partisan way of course--picketed the Sun-Times building, claiming the Sun-Times was not respecting their African-American readership by endorsing GWB.

Still can't figure out the Daily Herald going to the dark side.

I thought Murdoch owned it. I guess I was wrong. Still, the paper usually is less of a liberal rag. But apparently, it thinks a waffler who cannot keep to any path or idea, who betrays whatever he embraces, is a good choice to be president. Strange logic.

Sun Times is a local (IL) market which is a hopeless state anyway. This has no legs.

John Kerry's leadership style:

We cannot win in Vietnam.
We cannot defeat communism.
We cannot defat terrorism.

We need more jobs in America. How about a plant to manufacture surrender flags?

Murdoch sold it when he bought a TV station here, to be one of the original Fox broadcast outlets. FCC rules at the time didn't allow newspapers to own a TV station or radio staion in the same market. The Tribune and WGN-TV and radio were grandfathered in. Not sure if that anti-crossowner ship law is in effect still.

A Uniter? John Kerry, who has run the most mean spirited, personal attack driven political campaign in modern US History will UNITE us? This is OBVIOUSLY a paper that paid NO attention to this year's campaign. John Kerry is probably THE most ideologically driven candidate in the last 60 years. The ONLY reason the "Print News Media" doesn't see it is HIS politics are THEIR politics.

The Sun-Times, which endorsed Bush in 2000

just fyi. There was a boycott against the Sun-Times for that Bush endorsement in 2000. Local black leaders basically saying, blacks buy more SunTimes (% wise) and they should've supported Gore. I don't think that boycott gained any traction. I still have my subscripton to the SunTimes...but maybe not anymore.

I plan on voting for Bush and that's one less vote Kerry will win Illinois by.....Take that KERRY!!!!

I still haven't decided to vote for Keyes or skip that Senate choice. Guess it'll be an election day decision. Maybe I'll write-in DA COACH.

Good old sensitivity issues. I would expect that an editorial have a little logical perspective on which they based their decision. Instead, they parade out ESP and their own personality disorder as the basis for their decision. Idiots.

They are basing their assessment at a time of war on a "feeling?" They said the country just doesn't "feel right" and then cite Kerry's "leadership skills" when has he ever led except to spit on the nation and his fellow soldiers. I am beginning I must have "gone through the looking-glass" - will I be seeing the Chesire cat soon?

I see black people in the subway reading the NY Post all the time. They could care less if it endorses Bush. They like the sports coverage.

I think this is a stupid business move, because they will lose some conservative subscribers but very doubtfully gain any black readers. What do they expect, Jesse Jackson will tell blacks to buy their rag?

John Kerry is a 60-year-old man who has never held an executive position. He held his last leadership position, officer in charge of a five-man boat, over 30 years ago.

Good point!!! And worse, he only DID THIS JOB for four months or so and his superiors were ANXIOUS for him to get the hell out!

Isn't that the newspaper that Thomas Lipscomb writes for? He is the one that has been instrumental in bringing some of the fact of Kerry's bogus medals out in the open. Surely, that wouldn't have anything to do with it?

Did that make any sense?

- - and, of course, to a liberal the only important thing
is how they "FEEEEEEEEELLLLL". Bypass the old brain and
go directly to how you are "feeling"!

Sometimes I think (not feel) that most of the media in
general plays both sides against the middle.
