Liz Cheney Demands Kerry Apology

In a face-to-face encounter with John Kerry's daughter Alexandra, gutsy Liz Cheney demanded an apology on Saturday for Kerry's decision to publicly identify her sister Mary as "a lesbian" to a presidential debate audience of millions.
Sitting right next to Alexandra while the two guested on ABC's "Good Morning America," the married mother of four said a Kerry apology "would be appropriate."
But Alexandra didn't stray from the Kerry campaign's edict that Mary Cheney's sexuality is "fair game," telling the Liz, "when you choose to be part of a campaign, you choose to make yourself public." The day before, top White House aide Mary Matalin also suggested it was time for Kerry to apologize - but so far the top Democrat refuses to acknowledge he was wrong.
The reaction to Kerry's "lesbian" outburst - and the way his campaign has mishandled it - has been overwhelmingly negative, with polls showing that, by a margin of two-to-one, Americans think he was wrong to "out" Cheney in Wednesday night's debate.
Some pundits thought that the gay-baiting ploy could be politically fatal, with WABC Radio's Monica Crowley flatly predicting on Saturday that it could "cost Kerry the election."
Even the Christian right - who team Kerry thought would be turned off to learn that a member of President Bush's political family is gay - has rallied to Mary Cheney's defense.
Columnist Zef Chafets noted in Sunday's New York Daily News, "Well-known political preachers like Jerry Falwell and James Dobson have gone out of their way to defend her right to privacy. Conservative radio talk shows and Web sites have been flooded with denunciations of Kerry and support for Mary."

Any of the RATS who say this was Kerry's attempt to show empathy for the Cheney family are out and out liars. This has been a planned, calculated ploy since early in the campaign. Perhaps it has been mentioned on threads before, but does anyone recall the "Dear Mary" Campaign launched last winter? This has been in the works for a long time. Edwards knew he was twisting the knife during the VP debate, and the smug look on his face when the VP "thanked" him only demonstrates that. His porcine wife showed how vile one woman can be toward another and it clearly shows the shallowness of these people. Of particular note, although not a member of the campaign, per se, was Lawrence O'Donnell's hysteria on Friday night's "Scarborough Country," in which he repeated the word "lesbian" over and over. Al Hunt did the same thing on "Capitol Gang" Saturday. This is calculated, planned and meant to be stinging. May these hateful people who seek to harm the VP and his family choke on their own venom.

I believe the author got it wrong--Mrs. Cheney's first name is "Lynne."The author is correct. Liz Cheney is the daughter of Dick and Lynne, sister of Mary.

Annulment does not affect children in that way and as a Catholic who despises Kerry, I am sick of seeing that canard tossed around on this board.

They Cheneys have four children? Liz Cheney had her fourth child, a boy named Philip, on July 2, 2004. I remember it because it is my sister's birthday and I loved the picture of Grandpa Dick Cheney holding baby Philip.

It was indeed LIZ Cheney, sister of Mary, other married daughter of Dick and Lynne and mother of four, who appeared on GMA with Alexandra "the hussy" Kerry.

Keyes said a generic lesbians is, by nature, a "selfish hedonist" and then agreed when asked if that included Mary Cheney, a lesbian, Keyes said by definition (as a lesbian) she would be included as a lesbian. He didn't drag her name up. Edwards did. Kerry did. And in the Keyes case, the MEDIA specifically brought her up in the interview after he made a general philosophical statement about lesbians. He was consistent, he made a *general* remark. The MSM, aka Media wing of the Democrat Party, SPUN it as an attack on Mary Cheney.

Forget the apology. When your enemy is digging himself in, toss him another shovel, not a ladder. I think billhilly has a great pointThat wasn't a ladder;that was a flashlight! Wouldn't want folks to miss that hole he's digging for himself.

It is incredible that Alexandra Kerry has inherited the lack of core values from her father. She is a future doctor...That would be Alexandra's sister, Vanessa, who is the aspiring doctor.

Sheesh. That's one ugly broad.
It's a good thing she's rich.

First of all, there is a question about the annulment itself. Seems no one really knows if it was ever official. Second, Kerry's first wife vehemently objected to it. Thirdly there are some who aren't Catholic who believe that annulments have the effect of bastardizing children. Lastly, that is not the point, the point is whether the Kerry campaign thinks it is fair game to discuss it. My guess is that they would object vociferously to anyone bringing it up in the context of family values.

"she is a slight over weight isn't she ". You may say that... ..Which given the Dem's "fair game" rule leads to the following question for John Edwards...
"John, you wife is fat and ugly, and you are good looking and powerful, do you sleep around a lot, or do you fat women turn you on?
Sound like "fair game" to me

I don't like to see annulment and its affect on children mischaracterized.
I agree completely that there are questions in how and even if he obtained one. I also agree he (and his media friends) would howl like banshees if that aspect of his life was brought up as "fair game".

It is a beautiful picture the URL for it is

I think the confusion over Liz and Lynne is because Liz continues to use her maiden name in the political arena. By the way her married name is Perry.

Thank you for linking to the picture. Isn't that sweet? And Lynne was in the picture, too---I remembered the VP because it showed his "softer side".

He did refer to McGreevey---but knew not to name him as it "just isn't done" (thereby underscoring the viciousness behind his reference to Mary Cheney in particulary).
Kerry said very shortly after the Cheney reference that he knew "wives and husbands" who had come to grips with "who they were" or some such rot.
