Perhaps just a bit of an aside here...
"I have my final DD214 in the same location as with other super-important documents"
I had mine registered with the county clerk in Tucson when I separated. Much easier a place to get a true copy should it ever be required and should my personal copie(s) ever get lost or destroyed...

OK: on my review, it appears that the SECOND DD214 that is part of the same file, and that I missed, states "honorable" in an appropriate block as type of service. It has always annoyed me that the "reviewing officer" is not required to date DD214's, but that is the way it is, so I will accept on faith right now that this was issued properly and at the time of sKerry's release.
There are many other questions about his service which have nothing to do with the type of his discharge. I am also very surprised that the reviewing officer let the form out of the office with that "Combat V". Kerry's subsequent antiwar activity is clearly improper behavior for an officer in the reserves, and treasonous. Also, is seems clear his gaming the system with regard to the BandAid purple hearts and probably other medal(s) is reprehensible.
Again, I apologize to everyone for the statements I made by my missing the second DD214.
