Chechen terrorists probed
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July.
The Chechen group is suspected of having links to Islamist terrorists seeking to separate the southern enclave of Chechnya from Russia, according to officials familiar with intelligence reports.
Members of the group, said to be wearing backpacks, secretly traveled to northern Mexico and crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona that is difficult for U.S. border security agents to monitor, said officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The intelligence report was supplied to the U.S. government in late August or early September and was based on information from an intelligence source that has been proved reliable in other instances, one official said.
A second U.S. official said the report is being investigated, but said it could not be determined whether the group of Chechens actually entered the country, as the intelligence source reported.
"We don't know whether or not that report is true," this official said. A spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed ...
What can we do about changing laws to allow teachers to pack? If pilots can do it (after being certified, I believe -- maybe someone can correct me?) then why not teachers who have gone through a special training program as well? Yes, I'm from Texas, and I keep thinking of a certain Luby's ... and also remember a school shooting that was foiled a few years ago by a vice principal who had his handgun in his car. People here in California blanch when I say things like this, but we need to think this way if we want to protect our kids.
It depends on which way you're going and how mean the customs agent is.
I once crossed the US border into Canada and the French-Canadian border agent demanded ID. I had my driver's license (which is not International ID) but I left my passport at home. Finially I found my voter registration card.
I have crossed the Canadian border many times and that was the only time I was asked for ID (because the guy was French scum). Since then they have put up signs for French speakers. Probably got lots of complaints.
I have never had a problem crossing the into the US from Canada, probably because my car has Michigan plates.
LOL. That is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
When a report is known to be true, that's when we'd usually stop calling it intelligence. ;-)
No there are not. Are you willing to give up your life to play soldier on the border? Hell no.
Too bad we're not probing them the way the russians are probing that terrorist survivor from Beslan. I'm sure the russian poker is alot hotter than the ones the aliens use.
The good thing about Al Qaeda is that they think big: The Cole, the embassies, the WTC, etc. They won't waste their time with small stuff like using single bombers on busses or restauraunts. The bigger the target the more planning they need and, hence, the greater chance of being caught.
Smaller splinter groups moving into the US scare me because they wouldn't think blowing up an apartment building or shooting up a shopping mall is beneath them. IMO these types are more dangerous than single nutjobs OR large organizations such as Al Qaeda.
It's my opinion that Al Qaeda has been effectively neutralized. The people capable of planning the big attacks are either dead or cowering in caves, defecating themselves whenever they hear anything that sounds like a plane, cursing the day George Bush was born and praying to their moon god for a Kerry victory in November. We're now turning the page to a more dangerous phase of the War on Terror(TM), mopping up the splinter groups and eliminating the societal causes of terror (ie, an entire region still stuck in the middle ages). I think that this phase will be the most dangerous part of the war on islamofascism with regards to attacks on the homeland.
Sounds painful. I certainly hope so.
Are you for real? There are people in Arizona doing it on their own, for crying out loud. And there are countless thousands of Americans who would do this, for a good solid wage. But then there would be those who would denigrate the effort as 'playing soldier at the border'.
Yeah, we said the same thing right after 9/11. The victims are all but forgotten to the Left. What towers? What airplanes?
The time has come for the Feds to form an elite, highly paid, all Apache desert corp to patrol the remote border areas of the southwest. They would put a virtual end to illegal Mexicans, dope smugglers, and terrorists.
You forgot the sweeping destruction of the American Islamic community
You're right. They'd better pray to Allah theres another Richard Clarke around to fly their sorry rears out of the country when the time comes.
"Notice they didn't come to TEXAS, since we all have guns I guess they thought it would be safer other places..."
Many Arizonans are armed to the teeth, as well.
I don't want my tax dollars spent for a hopeless cause. If you want to patrol the border get yourself out there and knock yourself out. There is NO possible way, short of mining the entire border north, south, east and west to come anywhere close to stopping border crossers. Hell it would stop terrorists in any case. If they want in they will get in.
Velcro.
That seems to be the mindset of many around here. Just pull down the curtain and lock it up. Ezzy pezzy japanezzy.
"I don't want my tax dollars spent on a hopeless cause."
Oh, so this is where you draw the line. All the other stuff your 'tax dollars' are spent on, you're OK with that. But on THIS, well, I'm going to have to put my foot down. You are out of arguments, to have to resort to this.
