FCC COMMISSIONER STATEMENT ON SINCLAIR AIRING OF ANTI-KERRY SHOW
Tue Oct 12 2004 13:39:02 ET
FCC COMMISSIONER COPPS CRITICIZES SINCLAIR CORPORATE DECISION TO PREEMPT LOCAL STATIONS FOR POLITICAL BROADCAST
Commissioner Michael J. Copps reacted to reports that Sinclair Broadcast Group will preempt more than 60 local stations across the country to air an overtly political program in the days prior to the Presidential election.
Copps stated: "This is an abuse of the public trust. And it is proof positive of media consolidation run amok when one owner can use the public airwaves to blanket the country with its political ideology -- whether liberal or conservative. Some will undoubtedly question if this is appropriate stewardship of the public airwaves. This is the same corporation that refused to air Nightline's reading of our war dead in Iraq. It is the same corporation that short-shrifts local communities and local jobs by distance-casting news and weather from hundreds of miles away.It is a sad fact that the explicit public interest protections we once had to ensure balance continue to be weakened by the Federal Communications Commission while it allows media conglomerates to get even bigger. Sinclair, and the FCC, are taking us down a dangerous road."

I will do that - luckily both of my senators are Republicans, Hutchison and Cornyn. My congressman is Joe Barton who was called to try to go after CBS after the forgerys were discovered. I'm not sure where that stands but I know he heads that committee. So I will take your excellent advice, elephant. Thanks!
Bump for later, when I write to see that PBS loses funding.
I just sent this little gem to Mr. Copps:
Dear Mr. Copps,I was very disappointed to read your scathing remarks concerning the planned airing of the documentary, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal". It shows a rather blatant hypocrisy on your part when you can simultaneously preach condemnation against The Sinclair Broadcasting Group for this proposed airing, while you simultaneously look away as major networks like ABC, NBC, and CBS daily air their leftist propaganda thinly disguised as the evening news.
I would appreciate it if you reconsidered your position on this matter.
Sincerely,
Meyer
I heard about the Springsteen concert but I wasn't aware that Moore's movie made it on TV
Can you say ... HYPOCRITES !!
Thank you, Meyer but since he is a mouth-piece for the Dims, he will do nothing of the sort.

.......
just sent my email to Sinclair - (wouldn't waste time contacting Kerry's camp - wouldn't want to get a virus in my ohone line.)
my email:
SHOW the film!
Or you will further the cause of controlled media.
One by one, Kerry's REAL "plans" are becoming apparent.
"Terrorists = a nuisance"
"Controlled Media"
US Sovereignty = given to UN"
Furthermore, those two people probably own the movie on DVD. Democrats are freakin' morons.
WELL BUSH SAID HE MADE SOME APPOINTMENT MISTAKES. DEFINITLY ONE OF THEM
................
LOL
~ LOL, I keep saying he looks like Michael J Fox, too ~
Hey, no fair y'all, I like Michael J Fox. Please don't compare him to a DemocRat. [wink]
Even if they ultimately don't show the film, producer could now distribute DVDs/videos or another medium and probably sell quite a few - thanks to the publicity generated by Kerry and friends.
.............
I emailed suggesting Sinclair they show preview excerpts of the movie - that'll increase the viewership and - God forbid - if the FCC axes them - well, people will have gotten some good info anyway...
I know, but it never hurts to stuff his "e" box with a little dissenting opinion.
I also sent an e-mail of support to Sinclair.
Thank you for that mental image....
I sent my email to Sinclair. I also told them about the online demo groups (like they don't know) organizing the writing campaign, instructing their members to tell Sinclair they are going to dump their stock whether they own any or not.
You can listen to Rush on a variety of stations online, the ones I usually listen to are KFI Los Angeles, KOA Denver, CO (requires user/password signup - Free), and WLS Chicago.

unfortunately, i'm tucked away in the woods of the very north east - -
but thank you ;)
Well, maybe?? They are two sets of rules as we know.
I'm in the hinterlands of the midwest, every station a haybalin' country music station, and one FM station, but that isn't stopping me from seeking the fountain of talk radio elsewhere. :)
