FCC COMMISSIONER STATEMENT ON SINCLAIR AIRING OF ANTI-KERRY SHOW
Tue Oct 12 2004 13:39:02 ET
FCC COMMISSIONER COPPS CRITICIZES SINCLAIR CORPORATE DECISION TO PREEMPT LOCAL STATIONS FOR POLITICAL BROADCAST
Commissioner Michael J. Copps reacted to reports that Sinclair Broadcast Group will preempt more than 60 local stations across the country to air an overtly political program in the days prior to the Presidential election.
Copps stated: "This is an abuse of the public trust. And it is proof positive of media consolidation run amok when one owner can use the public airwaves to blanket the country with its political ideology -- whether liberal or conservative. Some will undoubtedly question if this is appropriate stewardship of the public airwaves. This is the same corporation that refused to air Nightline's reading of our war dead in Iraq. It is the same corporation that short-shrifts local communities and local jobs by distance-casting news and weather from hundreds of miles away.It is a sad fact that the explicit public interest protections we once had to ensure balance continue to be weakened by the Federal Communications Commission while it allows media conglomerates to get even bigger. Sinclair, and the FCC, are taking us down a dangerous road."

LMAO! :) Heya!
I sent my complaint about the CBS News airing of forged documents to my local CBS television affiliate, and to its owner. The owner? Sinclair Broadcasting!
So here is Sinclair Broadcasting, owner of television broadcasting stations in quite a few markets, and using various network affiliations. In my market, a CBS affiliate will be airing Stolen Valor.
There's so much noise, I can't hear anything.
Commissioner
Michael J. Copps
Nominated May 1, 2001; confirmed May 25, 2001; sworn in May 31, 2001. Copps served until January 2001 as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he was previously Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Basic Industries. Copps came to Washington in 1970, joining the staff of Senator Ernest Hollings (D-SC) and serving for over a dozen years as Chief of Staff. He has also held positions at Collins and Aikman Corporation and the American Meat Institute. Before coming to Washington, Copps was a professor of U.S. History at Loyola University of the South. Copps received a B.A. from Wofford College and earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
YEAH WE KNOW EVIL DUMS WANT OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH REMOVED FROM THE CONSTITUTION
How many times will Bush kick at Lucy's football before he learns? Appointing democrats as a gesture of goodwill ALWAYS backfires because Dems are the enemey within his administration.
He pets the dems, they bite him, he pets again.

It's a great publicity stunt BECAUSE the Dems are stupid, and it is working beautifully...so long as Sinclair actually shows the film.
We welcome your comments regarding the upcoming special news event featuring the topic of Americans held as prisoners of war in Vietnam. The program has not been videotaped and the exact format of this unscripted event has not been finalized. Characterizations regarding the content are premature and are based on ill-informed sources.
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry has been invited to participate. You can urge him to appear by calling his Washington, D.C. campaign headquarters at (202) 712-3000.

WELL BUSH SAID HE MADE SOME APPOINTMENT MISTAKES. DEFINITLY ONE OF THEM
I can tell you it will be shown on Fox45 in Baltimore, MD.
Sinclair is a media ownership company. They are the equivalent of someone like NBC-Universal, or AOL/TimeWarner, or ABC/Disney. They [SBG] own 62 stations nationwide. Most of them are in key battleground states.
Isn't Copp the Clinton appointee who keeps giving Howard Stern a hard time? Of course Howard blames Bush.
If so, he'd be seen sqatting over the flag instead of standing upright over it.
I sent them a note of encouragement yesterday but today the DUers have been boycotting the advertisers and one (SYLVAN LEARNING CENTERS) pulled their ads. The DUer will be protesting at all the Sinclair TV stations. There is a massive effort and the DNC has been emailing everyone to do this.
This guy is right on.
I agree, it's quite misleading. Apparently Drudge's hits have been down about a million per day and I think he's reaching. There is no way Copps (I say, did you know he worked for Sen. Hollings?) can make this call on his own. However, we certainly know where he stands on the issue.
Okay we know what Copps says, does anybody know what the rest of the FCC says?
LOL LOL LOL,,way to go sinclair!!!!!
