it has him getting an honorable discharge in 1978.

Not to come down hard on you, but we go through this every time this story surfaces.

Separation does not equal discharge.

Kerry was separated in 1978.

He was discharged in 2001.

Service members get DD214s when they are separated and when they are discharged.

Until someone shows that the 2001 discharge was not for strength adjustments (and there are documents out on the 'net indicating that it was for strength adjustments), I put this 'less-than-honorable' story in the 'nice, but likely not true' category.

Do people here know how an officer gets a less-than-honorable? If there was an Admiral's mast or court martial, do you think it'd have been hidden for two or three decades?

Sorry, I typed too fast.

The 2001 document was a DD215, issued to make some correction(s) to previously issued DD214(s).

A 2001 discharge for Kerry would certainly be something that needs to be exposed.

The Swiftees are using 1978 as his discharge date IIRC. It stuck in my mind because I saw a thread on this subject before reading Unfit for Command and noted how the book contradicted it.

Co-author Jerome Corsi is a Freeper so I'm pinging him. Maybe he can shed some light or use this thread as grist for future milling.

You couldn't be more wrong. Kerry received his honorable discharge on Feb 16, 1978. He was released from active duty on Jan 3, 1970. You receive a DD214 when you are released from active duty. Kerry amended his DD214 in March 2001 using a DD215 to update information in his record.
