Australian Election
vanity | 9th October 2004 | naturalman1975

I hesitate to suggest this, as I am fairly new around here, but I have noticed that there is quite a lot of interest in the Australian eleciton, so I thought I would make an offer here. I will be watching the election coverage and if people are interested, as the coverage proceeds, I can post updates in this thread, so people can follow what is happening in Australia.

Just an offer. Coverage starts in 15 minutes.

Oh and if any other Aussies want to post updates as well, of course, I wouldn't object. It's just I can see interest.

24 seats? Good Lord. I doubt Latham will get another chance, if he's done that badly.

The coalition's majority in the House of Representatives may not quite be 20 seats but it will be close to that number. I have just returned from a voting booth where I was acting as a scrutineer watching the votes being counted.

Me too. I have done an enormous amount of work to ensure a coalition victory.

The positive waves from the political ripple effect will hopefully assist Mr.Bush in the upcoming US Election.

24 seats? I doubt it (I'd love it, but I doubt it). Maybe they should have given Crean a go, he couldn't have done any worse!

You're very kind, Meg. I must admit to a few nervous moments, this week- but I clung to a prior observation, that when the chips are down Aussies will make the commonsense decision. Having said that, some of the outrageous spending by the Prime Minister in the campaign has left a sour taste in conservatives' mouths- not so strong, however, as to overpower the taste of victory.

That really surprises me. I've known for a long time that it's a really outdated view, but I still had this vague idea of Australia,New Zealand, being these traditional conservative places overall. Reading the australian papers disabused of that, but I didn't realise about New Zealand.I'd be interested to learn how that came about,i'll do some deeper reading.

LOL, I must've read too many of those Harlequin romances when I was a kid,not a good place to get your ideas of other nations! I hope you know that I'm joking:)

Earlier we noted that Australia has done its part..now it is up to us..We also wondered if Kerry's sister had ticked off any Aussies?

Aagh - ABC just blacked out, just as they were about to talk about whether we've won the Senate.

Kerry's idiot sister ticked me off and she probably ticked off quite a few others here in Oz, but her comments would not have even registered on 95% of the publics' electoral radar.
