THE YANKEES WIN! Take 2-1 lead in the series

Posted on 10/08/2004 8:14:58 PM PDT by Nascardude

What a great night. Bush kicks Kerry's butt in the debate, and now the Yankees move into 2-1 lead over the twins. I can smell a Sox/Yanks rematch in the ALCS

I'm glad I came home early from work. Saw some great baseball and a great debate performance by President Bush. I haven't left my couch since 4PM!

Seeing Pedro Martinez pitch in Yankee Stadium again will be electric. I've already got butterflies in my stomach thinking about it.

As a Sox fan, this is why I'd rather the Angels had faced the Yankees in the first round.

I don't know if my heart can take another 7-game, extra-inning classic. I'm getting too old for this!

Well, all due deference to the Yanks, but can you imagine a series between Houston and Boston? That would be a fun political series, no?

On MSNBC they're saying the Twins won.

I hate the Rockette so much that I'm forced to pull for the Braves.

It's amazing what that kind of passion will make someone do.

Gardy had a Boston moment and left the closer in to long the other night. That will cost the twins. Plus the 70 million more on the payroll for the yankees.

NO!!!
You know that Kerry will be showing up in the owners box seats and throwing out (girly style) the first pitch.

Go TWINS!!
Yes, it was an excellent evening... The Hometown team kept us on the seat of our pants!! It was a perfect prelude into seeing GWB kick some autocratic
Yankee butt!
The Angels are dust, We'd "prefer" the "TWINS" in the playoffs...
Those are my absolute never wavered "nuanced responses"

IMHO, it will be the Cardinals against the Red Sox. Cardinals and Bush win.

I'm with Joe Queenan when he says that there's no such thing as a "die-hard Yankee fan." Why? Because you've never had to die. OK, you lost the 2001 and 2003 World Series (and didn't even make it in 2002), but George just went out and threw a few zillion dollars at some more All-Stars.

Try being a fan of the Red Sox, the White Sox, the Cubs, the Mets, the Phillies, the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Montreal Expos... THOSE fans have had to die.

But not Yankee fans. You cannot compare yourselves with the rest of us, so don't try.

As a Twins fan, I congratulate you. I really thought the twins would come out with bats tonight. They really don't have the rotation depth to move on in the playoffs. even if they miraculously beat the yanks, they just can't get to the series. Patty cakes in the central all year does not make a championship team. It may get them 90 wins, but it doesn't move you to the next level of competitive play. It really is to bad that their team will be busted up next year. They just cannot compete with the money in N.Y.

The small market teams are just minor league teams. As Minnesota brings their guys up from the farm, they make them professional enough to be put on the block for N.Y. and Atlanta and L.A. and Chicago. So So Sad!!

Hmmm, if I remember the NY Mets spent nearly as much as the Boss have nothing to show for it. Also, bear in mind the Yankees were pretty much a laughingstock by 1989-1990. Took years to rebuild that franchise.

So, they're a dynasty (in terms of making the playoffs every year). Perhaps it has less to do with money and free agents as it does to do with Torre, a deep bench and excellent play by veterans such as Jeter and Posada.

The 1950s "rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for General Motors" is wearing rather thin and was pushed along by Dodgers fans--btw, I believe that myth of "dem Bums" needs to be laid to rest.

They may have lost to the Yankees all but once, but how dominating were they of the National League from 1947 to 1966? Particularly the Brooklyn years.

Actually, George is a lousy owner. The only reason why the Yankees exist as they are is because Fay Vincent kicked him out and professionals took over until he served his suspension. He's mellowed a lot since the old days. Still makes mistakes, like that pitching staff.

My Yankee bloodline goes back to my great-grandfather and the Highlanders and there are a helluva more like us throughout the country who can claim that.
