He's not a real Catholic. I was raised Catholic and I was an Altar Boy, Kerry shares NONE of the values I was taught!

The Catholic church doesn't do that very much any more. He has been banned from communion from what I have heard.

He has effectively excommunicated himself under Church law. There need not be a formal pronouncement. That' why he goes to church at schismatic "c"atholic churches where fallen-away priests don't withhold communion.

Under well-established Church law, taking communion when you have been told that your moral choices are inconsistent with the sacrament is considered a grave sin, a sacrilege, that can imperil your mortal soul because you have effectively giving God the finger.
