Michael, the church is an assembly, an assembly of people. Not a building.

Actually, it is both:

Church

Pronunciation: 'ch&rch
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English chirche, from Old English cirice, ultimately from Late Greek kyriakon, from Greek, neuter of kyriakos of the lord, from kyrios lord, master; akin to Sanskrit sura hero, warrior
1 : a building for public and especially Christian worship
2 : the clergy or officialdom of a religious body
3 : a body or organization of religious believers: as a : the whole body of Christians b : DENOMINATION c : CONGREGATION
4 : a public divine worship
5 : the clerical profession

The point, which apparently went over your head, was that the headline was a poor choice of words.

No it didn't, and you'll make no points using silly insults.

It is a fact that a church is the people, and that is what the article was referring to. You are wrong in your critcism.

So headlines should never contain any word that has more than one meaning, even if the intended one is obvious? That's known as "grasping for straws", Michael.
