True, but what happened to Alpha Phi Alpha at SMU a year or so ago where they forced a pledge to nearly drink himself to death? Did I mention that the drink was water? I guess it's time to ban water then...

The best friends I have are my old fraternity brothers. I'm a proud alumni. No, you're not. You're a proud alumnus. From one Greek to another: Get your Latin straight, or people will think you don't speak English :)

Mine had a library...great make-out room.LOL!
My college had a Greek participation rate of something like eight percent. The concept is pretty foreign to me.
Well, except for "Animal House." I learned a lot from that.
Sororities are all full of hot lesbians too, right?

I'm a Chi Psi from Berkeley. We promised not to tell what goes on in initiation (and I take that promise seriously) but I never took a promise on saying what we don't do. And I can definitely tell you that the acts described in this article are NOT part of the initiation procedure.
I can also tell you that if national had any idea that kind of crap was going on, those involved would be kicked out. National sends representatives, usually fairly recent grads who know the kind of crap that can go on and what signs to look for, to check on the various chapters to make sure that these things do not happen. If the allegation in this article are true, then anyone involved will not get to continue calling themselves brothers.
And on that note, where were his pledge brothers? Our pledge class, at the very beginning of things, decided that if any of this kind of crap went down, we would all walk. That didn't have to happen but that is the type of loyalty his pledge brothers should have shown.

From my pledge class:
2 lawywers
1 MD
1 currently in med school
1 RN
1 Chemical Engineer
1 CPA
1 MBA
Naw...no success here.

Banning frats is like banning guns.
It's a sad case, but the man (legal adult) made the choice to drink that whiskey. A .328 BAC.

Okay, so a kid joins a club of guys and they encourage binge drinking, not just as a part of initiation, but all the time. When you do this kind of stupid crap in the military, it used to be that your buddies would look out after you. Evidently these frat punks are too gutless to do that. The little faggots even wrote on his body and then tried to clean it off when they saw he was dead. A thorough beating with a sock filled with quarters sounds like a good payback for these boys.

Why Fraternities Should Be BannedGet a life. I was never in a frat, and don't like frat punks, but everyone knows what is going to happen when you pass out around a bunch of 20 year old drunks. This is a tragic accident nothing more. The family will sue and get some money and hopefully it will serve as an object lesson to everyone.
It will happen again sooner or later - it is in young boy's natures to drink, eat and smoke too much. It can't be changed nor am I sure it should be.

I wonder that as well.
It's good to hear that the brothers in your fraternity would walk if they saw this behaviour.

$500 a semester would be getting off cheap. My sister's sorority dues at Southwest Texas were about equal to her tuition each semester.
