I'm a native Texan, born in Dallas, raised in Houston. Out of any of the places I have ever lived in Texas, I would choose the area around San Antonio.

I actually lived in San Antonio proper when I was there. I was transferred there by my employer. I would move back there in a heartbeat if I could.

Semi-funny story:
I had been living in Dallas when I was transferred to San Antonio. I had a friend living in SA and I was going to stay with her until my apartment was ready for me. I asked her how long I should allow for my commute to the office. She told me the traffic would be awful so I should allow extra time. Well, I was used to my commute in Dallas taking me anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour or more so I left her place at 7:20. Got to the office at 7:30.

I imagine traffic is a little more congested now than it was in the early 90's.

About San Antonio's traffic. Back before interstates and freeways, when our family took long car trips to the west and passed thru S. A., we always said the residents changed the street signs around every night. We always got lost there. I am sure it is because the city is so old and all the major thru streets were trails that meandered around. It was always interesting to get lost in S.A. You saw some neat stuff.
