WASHINGTON, DC – Jerry Hood, former Special Assistant on Energy, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, today issued the following statement:
“John Kerry and John Edwards have forgotten their records of supporting job-killing extreme environmental regulations, but the union workers whose jobs he put on the line won’t be as forgiving. Kerry’s 2002 proposal to raise CAFE standards would have destroyed as many as 100,000 jobs and was opposed by both the UAW and the AFL-CIO for facilitating outsourcing. Their Senatorial and Presidential policies are endangering the welfare of the American Worker, and the impact of those policies would be felt nowhere greater than right here in Michigan. Believe me, they are no friend of labor.
“Kerry and Edwards' empty promises to working families have no credibility considering their own advisers have admitted their tax plan would not create jobs or stop outsourcing. President Bush’s pro-growth economic policies have lowered taxes for every American and created 107,000 manufacturing jobs since January, but Kerry has long put the interests of environmental extremists ahead of Michigan's working families. Rank and file union members are looking for a candidate who cares about workers, and John Kerry is in for a big surprise if he thinks he can take our votes for granted on November 2.”

Finally, a union official that talks straight to the rank and file! This guy should replace John Sweeney as the head of the AFL-CIO and Sweeney's handpicked marxists like Trumka. This is a good first step for the rank and file to take back their unions.
Hood is the guy Murkowski was rumored to be picking for Senator - but he picked his daughter instead... Dang.

Big deal. Wasn't it AFL-CIO members that attacked Florida Republican offices? So how many union members are now scratching their heads, trying to figure out who they're supposed to vote for.
You will not hear this statement in the mainstream media!!!
What we all need to do is spread this article around...I know that , as I once was a union member, that there are alot of voters who simply follow the union advice. They fail to realize that alot of the union heads are in it for themselves. I am sure alot of these regular union guys think that the union leaders wouldn't back anyone that would take their jobs away, but they are wrong!
That is a good analysis. The AFL-CIO was really shocked when all of the board of directors of my union backed Reagan in 1984.AFL-CIO and their member unions expect everyone to participate in groupthink. Of course, if you tell the AFL-CIO powers that be that their way is Orwellian, they would look at you like you were from outer space.
I'm glad you brought up Sweeney. Sweeney is a Progressive meaning a far left extreme Bolshevik. During my youth the unions could always be trusted to put America first and they were pro-military to a member.
What has happened to enable someone such as Sweeney to even get the time of day from labor?
I think I have some ideas as to the answers but would enjoy hearing from others.
Am I a cynic or do I detect a little weasel-wording here? The implication is that Hood is speaking as a Teamster bigwig, but he might just as easily be an ex-Teamster, and maybe one with a grudge.
I don't like it when the Dems play games and I don't like it when we do, either.
About frickin' time someone said this. The UAW was all too happy to support Kerry, despite the fact that his record shows him voting for things that would really hurt them.
Yet another reason why I've been saying Bush will win Michigan. If the GOP would push this issue in the state, it'd be over.

Sweeney is a proud socialist. It looks like there is an effort underfoot to have him ousted. His replacement looks just as bad. The AFL-CIO needs to get some non-socialists back into the upper echelons. I still haven't heard their explaination of the recent republican HQ attacks. Sweeney and the top tier of socialist elites should be forced to step down.

During this campaign season (on Chris Matthews' show I believe it was) he claimed that Kerry supported drilling the ANWR and every other bit of waste ground for oil. The Teamsters ought to be fighting for the jobs of the future, not the jobs of the past." ..."Clearly, we can explore ANWR without harming the environment," claimed Hoffa -- a statement that, along with the bunk he and his cronies are peddling about Kerry, shows that this is a man who is willing to do and say pretty much anything to curry favor, and cannot, therefore, be trusted.
