Democrats put Leahy in prime debate spot, months after he sparked curses from Cheney
CLEVELAND (AP) -- At tonight's vice-presidential debate, Dick Cheney may have to stare straight at a recent sore spot. Democrats have given a prime seat at the debate to Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, the lawmaker Cheney publicly cursed in June. At the time, both men were on the floor of the Senate and Leahy criticized Cheney's former company, Halliburton. Cheney responded with a four-letter word in front of other members of the Senate. He's never apologized for the remark and the White House says it has no problem with Cheney's words. But the Bush campaign does have an issue with tonight's seating. A Bush-Cheney staff member called the Kerry campaign to complain about Leahy's prominence.
With any luck VP will slyly give him the finger... I'm glued..
That would be a really nice touch.
Ha!....LOL...that's exactly what my hubby just said at dinner.
I'm a little confused about why this is a Big Deal with the 'rats. What's Leahy going to do? Make faces? Flip the bird at various times in the debate? Will Cheney care? I bet not.
Probably right. If the BC'04 team is excited about the prospects of Leaky Leahy being front and center, it'll only make Edwards' whuppin' all the more enjoyable.
Good evening Senator Edwards, my fellow citizens, and nice to see you again, Senator Leahy.
That's Senator Leaky Leahy
I seriously love the Zell idea. Fly him in and sit him right next to Patty-boy.

It's a notch below complaining about flashing lights on lecterns in my opinion.
That's what I would like to see.
Moreover, Kerry has had his own little errors, hasn't he? Verbal, plus a few gestures toward veterans. If Edwards brings up Cheney's incident, I sure hope Cheney asks about Kerry's.
This little 'trick' smacks of Terry McAuliffe.........juvenile.
Exactly.
Leaky Leahy is hardly a threat to anyone; if anything it will energize Cheney and remind him of all that he detests in the Democratic party.
Absolutely.
Pause for effect. Laughter should ensue.
"...we need to finish the job in Iraq".
I don't believe they did. Someone is lying about it, probably Kamp Kerry. (You say this as if it has happened before. It has not that I'm aware of. They can't "stop" what they never started.)
Not as much as a patient in a wheelchair would.
To refresh everyone's memory, I think Leaky (He leaked CLASSIFIED INFORMATION and got THROWN off his Committee) Leahy screamed against Cheney and Halliburton on the floor of the Senate and then later when all the Senators were assembled for the formal Senate picture, he went up and tried to shake Cheney's hand like nothing had happened, and that's when Cheney told him to "F" Himself. Who the hell wouldn't????
Well someone's got to take care of the little tyke.
Do you realize that there are some who would vote to put Edwards a heartbeat away from the presidency? Don't they understand that terrorists are targeting the President of the United States now more than ever in our history?
This is silly. No candidate would be phased by someone sitting in the audience.
