DEM FLASHED 'WRITE' STUFF AT DEBATE (KERRY PULLED OUT A BLACK PEN?)
New York Post ^ | 10/04/04 | GERSH KUNTZMAN

October 4, 2004 -- Was John Kerry trying to pull something at the debate last week?

That question was burning up the Internet yesterday after a slo-mo review of the footage showed the Massachusetts senator taking an object out of his right pocket before the first question.

Was it a cheat sheet — as some conservative bloggers claimed — or was it something innocuous?

Either way, it would violate the debate rules agreed to by both campaigns: "No props, notes . . . or other tangible things may be brought into the debate."

Many blogs offered links to the "Pocket-gate" footage. One, INDC Journal, even posted frame-by-frame stills purporting to show Kerry pulling out a notecard and placing it onto the podium.

But the mystery was solved when The Post reviewed a Fox News Channel feed from Thursday's debate: Kerry pulled out . . . a black pen.

It's not a pen, and FOX has the footage. If they are taking this seriously enough to discover the Truth themselves, I'm going to put them in the same category as the rest of the MSM.

"I think ED's problem is she goes out of her way to be non partisan, at the expense of facts, unfortunately. If I were them, I'd reserve any comments (good or bad) until a full investigation is performed. She also commented that he was putting a pen in his pocket....not even close.

To me, this 'taking something out of the pocket' is blatantly obvious and needs to be exposed. "

ED's has spent tooooooo much time learning how to put the brakes on things from orielly. There is no way what JFKerry took out of his pocket a "pen". I have yet to see a pen that large, with corners and usable to write with.

The still frame shots I observed this morning clearly showed the top edges of cards or note paper.

"So, how did he get something in his right hand?"

It was up his sleeve. His lengthy hand shake with Bush was a staged demonstration that his right hand was empty. It didn't remain empty though. He is clearly holding something in his right hand seconds later. It may have been loosely taped to the inside of the jacket right sleeve.

I don't get Fox & Friends covering for Kerry. ED yes, but I get the impression at times that Steve can't stand the guy.

Fox is avoiding the story. Maybe they're getting sensitive to the criticism that Fox is a conservative republican tool.

If FOX won't cover the story nobody will.

The thing is now that the Kerry campaign has been caught lying about it (it was a black pen) the story is even bigger (the coverup is worse that the "crime").

Maybe Brit Hume wants to "break" the story. Major Garrett probably would too if he knows about it.

I just sent this email to Fox and Friends.

"If the liberal writer from the NY Post and E.D. think it was a black pen that Kerry pulled from his pocket, show us the best video in slow motion. By the way, even a pen was not allowed according to the rules."

Thank God for dila813. All of you may now turn your computers off. Move along. Nothing to see here. Dila813 has unlimited mental capacity and has deemed this controversy not worth your time.

Thank you Liberal liar and DemonRat spy. Your wise council has made all of us feel so much better. We no longer need free expression or FR. We have Dila813. Someone tell Robinson to turn the lights off on his way out!

Did Lehrer give him the list of questions in order before the "debate?"

If the post had looked at the stills and close ups, they would have known that the story by the Kerry campaign that it was a pen was an out and out fabrication. Either they are knowingly passing on a lie (which makes them liars), or they are shoddy reporters. Neither would be a surprise.

Was Kerry was looking down a lot during the debate?

I think he scribbled something down (or at least appeared to) early on.... perhaps so that no one would be curious as to why he was looking down all the time.

In the side-by-sides, do we see Kerry looking down a lot while Bush is talking??

"We plead guilty to having a pen."

"Even that was not allowed, so why isn't this a bigger story."

A clear admission of guilt that.

A pen can easily hide crib notes. That's why the rules banned "any tangible items"

Bush could show leadership in the next debate and challenge Kerry to a real, no holds barred debate then and there. Would the girly man Kerry refuse while everyone is watching?

To have two men, one on which will be the ruler of the free world, act all passive in the face of a PBS moderator is a travesty.

A president needs large brass ones and they aren't evident in these namby pamby debates

/end off topic rant/

"If FOX won't cover the story nobody will. "

Freerepublic is show prep for broadcast journalism. This is about all you'll hear from Rush and Hannity on Monday.

DSO (Denials, Spin and Obfuscation) to follow in the MSM.

I just emailed Chris Shaw at the New York Post and asked him to post a still of his feed that indicated Kerry had a black pen. I provided the link from last night that clearly shows a light colored object with straight edges.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1234255/posts

If they post side-by-side photos with an analysis, we can decide for ourselves.

I also emailed Fox and Friends, asking them to do the same thing. In light of Rathergate, it is unconscionable for them to simply take the word of a self proclaimed Liberal Democrat. What happened to the "We Report - You Decide"?

Reply to Post 72:

I REALLY needed that! LOL! Thanks!

Frankly, I will have to conclude that the device Kerry pulled out interfered with Bush's brain waves or something. I'm very sorry folks, but I was disappointed with Bush's "performance" and I fear that too much focus on this is just a reminder that Bush could have done better. No matter WHAT Kerry was doing.

I absolutely despise the thought that Kerry could win - I think he would be a DISASTER for this country. I know actually RUNNING the country is much, much harder than just taking potshots like Kerry does. And voting for President is not like voting for the most entertaining "performer" on American idol. I just hope enough of America agrees with me!

I suppose I may have also already factored in a "cheat factor," from the Democrats and the MSM, therefore I am not too surpised. What a sad commentary!

Let's stay on this story, but also make sure to move forward. The stakes are so terribly high . . .
