WASHINGTON (AP) -- In the presidential campaign's closing weeks, Democrats are bracing for an "October Surprise," an event so dramatic it could influence the election's outcome. The capture of Osama bin Laden, for instance.
It's part of American political lore: the party out of power worries about a last-minute surprise engineered by the party in power. Now that October has arrived and the election is just a month away, speculation is rife among Democrats that President Bush and political mastermind Karl Rove have some tricks up their sleeves.
"I assume that it will be something," said House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California. "We have to be ready for that."

OMG, I'm getting frustrated. I've always thought that voting around here was pretty fair but I've heard in Albuquerque and Santa Fe it is a joke and guess what...they always go Dim.
I remember a thread when Miss Marple mentioned knowing something that was going to come out that was hugh. Whether or not is has yet, I don't know.
Miss Marple, care to comment? :)
Nope. You'll just have to wait and see.
Glad to be 'of help.'
It will hurt Bush more than it would hurt Kerry.
How about if someone figures out that Teresa's family used slave labor and indentured servants to raise her in Mozambique, that idyllic home of her childhood?
"fear OBL will be caught"
Once again, the dems are afraid of good news for our country and our troops. If it saves lives, they fear it. If the death toll in Afghanistan/Iraq soars - they cheer it. They are anti-American a-holes. Continuing, they are also thoroughly ruthless, win-at-any-cost sacks of blood. If Kerry wins, I'll chear every life saved and mourn every life lost. If Iraq completely "turns around" under him and turns into a shining example of democracy, and every street corner has a statue of Kerry adorned with flowers and smiling children, I'll cheer the loudest. The reason? Because the success of a president and our troops is good for America.
Ugh...chear=cheer.
