It seems to me that Kerry "won" this debate, but ultimately he has thrown open several cans of worms for himself with his position on N. Korea, Iran, and that "Global Test" garbage. In the end, I suspect the GOP will take those worms and throw them back in his face...
Nah... he didn't win... Bush was just... just bad.
They ain't debates... they're question & answer sessions judged by style and delivery.
Bush flunked the latter badly... and he got a 'C' on the questions & answers. In short, he came close to 'stinkin' out the house'.
From Drudge:
Unbeknownst to Kerry adviser Mike McCurry, a C-SPAN camera quietly followed McCurry as he found Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart on Spin Alley floor and asked him his impression of the debate. Lockhart candidly said to McCurry , The consensus is it was a draw.
Kerry gaining anything last night is just a liberal fantasy.
As stated in another Post I too didnt think President Bush performed well , but Kerry made some of the damndest statements I have ever heard and Mr. Bush let him get away with them. I almost spit coke on my screen when Kerry said he was steadfast.
Kerry's statement that he would send nuclear fuel to the mullahs in Iran was mindboggling.
I agree with the can of worms analysis. Kerry, in his pedantic and patrician manner, called for sanctions against Iran. Bush, sounding incredulous, pointed out to JFinK that we already have sanctions against Iran. Perhaps, if Kerry had shown up for a few of the Intelligence Committee meetings or even the Senate as a whole, he would have known that.
Bush was so bad that after the first 5 minutes, I could barely bring myself to watch anymore. However, like most things in life, a new day brings fresh perspective.
Kerry will go down in history as 'winning the debate'; people will remember him as polished, effective public speaker. Unfortunately for Kerry, confidence got the better of him and he opened himself up to attack on some very critical issues.
For whatever reason(s), Bush did not effectively confront them during the debate. However, with 5 weeks to go, we can be assured that we'll keep hearing about Kerry's comments until election day.
