Thread 1 - Pre-Debate discussion
Wait and see.
I admire your judgement, but, respectfully, you're overreacting.
I share your frustration that the President didn't mop the floor with Kerry, but he did what he had to do, and that's enough.
Redeem himself from WHOM?
Perhaps you thought Bush was going to kill Kerry tonight?
He did just fine.
I agree. I thought Kerry came off as a "Used car salesman".
my 2 cents:
I think this debate will be received somewhat like the first Bush/Gore debate was. W lost the debate on the "classic debate scoring system" (whatever that is) but he will be well received well in the livingrooms of America. I think we all can more closly relate to W and no one likes a Monday mornng QB.
I must say I wanted to see W pound the specifics of opposing statments Kerry has made in the past, he didn't point out many of the unexplainables that Kerry has dug himself into.
Pundants will parse all that was said tonite and we'll find that W now has even more ammunition to use. I just wish POTUS would have taken advantage of this moment better.
John Kerry lost the election tonight people. You heard it here first."
Good points...
Upon further reflection, I believe Dubya scored with his compassion, sincerity, and conviction.
Kerry demonstrated far less sincerity, conveyed little warmth, and came off as smarmy.
Yeah, maybe you're right. Dubya could have won :-D
JA, he was talking about visiting after the USSR imploded. But he made a mistake that if Bush had made it, the MSM would have barbecued him.
Bless you!
As someone who was once, liberal, and stupid I would tend to think that I (and others like me) would have been impressed by the fact that Kerry could manage the best of both worlds--winning and yet minimizing American losses. Of course, now I realize that formulating such plans is as easy as making a grand slam bid in bridge--just say "seven" and the name of a suit. Of course, coming up with plans that actually work is often another story.
I am somewhat concerned, though, that many people may come away with the impression that Kerry has a meaningful plan. Maybe I am a young and impulsive grasshopper, but I don't want this election to be close. I want this election to be sufficiently decisive that nobody can ever call Bush an "illegitimate president".
I was rewatching the replay on C-Span and when Kerry spouted off about "this president doesn't understand the stakes in Iraq, Europe doesn't want a civil war on their doorsteps", I had to turn it off. Kerry is effin' nuts. God help us if he gets into power. I frankly can't even stand to listen to the man--he makes no sense.
You're the one who said shame on the president, and stated that he was prideful and unprepared. Therefore, I have nothing to say to you - because those comments offended me greatly. Good night.
knock off the personal attacks. The panel gave it to kerry.
You're about to get mail.
Yep. TV bricks might have been useful tonight.
No I think folks figured W would do a touch better, especially on Iraq. It's frustrating, the President is honest, righteous, personable, you see he speaks from the heart... but lack of eloquence and articulation will always be his barrier to greatness. The President missed some great opportunities, and I sort of sensed he had some good retorts half formulated but just couldn't get them out in time or for fear of making a mistake. As so many of us point out though, it is the fact we can see and perceive directly this man's character, that honest and sometimes simple transparency, that is what will win this election. Right man, right time. God bless him.
Proof the media doesn't trust Kerry to tell the truth
Knock it off and grow up.
Unfortunately Kerry had lost his orange hue...
Bush did not look "in command" of anything! How does he think his "out of touch" performance tonight will play with terrorists?!
Karen liked the way the President showed his true self!
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure he did, just as algore won EVERY SINGLE DEBATE IN 2000.
