Personally, Ann's ideas are what I find most attractive about her.
"Obscenity is not encompassed within the phrases "freedom of speech" or "freedom of the press."

Well that's the first step down the
slippery slope.
"Hate speech" comes next.
Then things that aren't 'politically correct'.
Then its political ads 60 days before an election.
And on and on...
Now freedom of speech has become to mean nothing but what the majority says it is, which is precisely no freedom of speech at all because the majority will only censor things it disagrees with, and given their fickle nature that can be just about anything.

The slippery slope has arrived at FR.
The other day I was informed by my opponent at the end of a debate:
"Do not contact me again. Further Contact will be considered harrassment under California Penal Code § 646.9 (2001) - Stalking"
You must have whipped him good in that debate, eh?
unbelievable.
I'd listen to him if I were you.
Every time somebody uses the words "you people", I get a vision of swastika armbands.

Some of you people won't know what hit you until the *real* crackdown begins.
And it won't be your fellow Americans doing the cracking. Take a lesson from Rome and Weimar Germany while we still can.

Antonius, it sure sounds to me like you would love to hit us with "the *real* crackdown"..
Are you a fellow American?
From your perspective as an atheist, why should I or anyone care about what's good for society? Why is the well-being of the other products of blind evolution who happen to be the same species as me a standard to which I must conform? Why is there any standard to which I must conform?
There's your problem. Laws have boundaries, the Internet doesn't. www.porn.uk (not a real site) exists in the UK, and is not bound by American law. www.porn.de exists in Germany, and is not bound by American law. www.porn.fr exists in France and is not bound by American law. I could go on, and on, but you probably still wouldn't get it.
The internet is a global medium with servers everywhere. Stamping out porn on the internet would be almost exactly like fighting fire ants. You can never really beat the ants. The best you can do is get them to move their hills periodically.
Sheesh.
robertpaulsen falsely claims:
Our Constitution was written for a moral and religious people

There isn't a single avowed atheist in any three branches of the federal government, yet we have the most unconstitutional government in history. Funny, that...

You disagree that we presently have the most unconstitutional government in our history?
Hitting the sauce early, robbie?
There isn't any "speech". It's all "commerce among the several states", ala FDR.
Who's forcing anything on you? If you don't like Playboy, don't read it. Who's forcing you? Oh, yeah, this calling everyone libertines? That doesn't wash. I'm so far from being a libertine that it's not even funny. I personally get bored with porn in mere moments, and have for years and years.

Just for the record, I don't favor theocracy as a form of government.

The ones I recall seeing were basically stick figures, except for the 'naughty parts', which were, to say the least, oversized. The man's junk was easily twice the length of his leg, and the woman's baby place was twice the size of her head. It was pretty comical. Then again, there probably weren't too many art classes at the time, so you kind of have to excuse the crudeness of it. Whoever painted it certainly had sex on his mind.
Thank G-d our founding fathers recognized the dangers of the "tyranny of the majority" and passed the Bill of Rights to protect us. Regardless of what some may say it would be a different and poorer nation had we not the Bill Of Rights.
He whipped himself.
Shortly after making his 'legal' threats he was suspended.
That was Ted Bundy, not Dahmer...get your serial killer facts straight.
