WEIRTON, W. Va., Sept. 29 -- Democratic vice presidential contender John Edwards said Wednesday morning that the most pressing challenge facing President Bush during the upcoming debate will be whether he can acknowledge the mistakes made in the execution of the Iraq war.
"The question is, is the President finally going to come clean and tell the American people the truth about what's going on in Iraq," he told radio talk show host Don Imus. "It will be interesting to see whether he keeps trying to say everything is going well, because everyone knows that's not true."
In a series of town hall meetings here and in other battle ground states over the past several days, Edwards has been focusing in on what he says have been the serious flaws in the nation's war effort. Referring to public assessments by Republican leaders in the U.S. Senate and by Secretary of State Colin Powell, Edwards tells his audiences of the troubling conditions: Americans being kidnapped and beheaded; a chaotic country still under the control of insurgents; terrorists "blowing into the country from all over the world"; over 1,000 American casualties.
"All people have to do is turn their television on to know what's going on," Edwards says. "People know all these things."
During Wednesday morning's radio appearance, Edwards also cited a 1992 interview with Vice President Dick Cheney in which he appeared to argue against an all-out Iraqi invasion. The Cheney interview, given when he was Secretary of Defense, was reported Wednesday by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
"When he was asked why they didn't finish the job in Iraq . . . he talked about the enormous danger and risk of getting bogged down," Edwards said, "of having to govern the country. Of the casualties that would be incurred.

I wonder if Kerry can admit that he made a mistake by voting for the war, and by supporting the war after the invasion began? I wonder if Kerry can admit he made a mistake when he said that Saddam had WMD.
Right. Sure.
And be watching CNN when they do. Of course they get information from all over Iraq...
Or, perhaps they only get information about the hot spots?
And when was this turd in Iraq last, talking with troops and civillians, that he knows what's going on over there?
This is there strategy (mantra) going into the debate. Make a note of it boys.

John Edwards, no one is listening because you have no credibility. You were picked because you had a nice look not because you offered anything more. You probably won't even be able to carry your own state. You are one of a long string of bad choices by Lurch.

Well, then, Kerry's unqualified to President. He hasn't admitted that picking you for the Veep slot was a mistake...
President Bush better be prepared to answer when the moderator asks him "What is the biggest mistake you made?"
Cheney's gonna make mincemeat out of him.

First of all, I've never heard one person say "everything is going well". Secondly, it sounds to me like he's blaming our troops over there. If I'm not mistaken, this was the fastest liberation ever by the U.S. Once again, the dems have nothing to run on except saying things that aren't true to hopefully persuade an undecided to vote for them.

Moments later, however, Edwards began backpedaling on his agreement with Sen. Kennedy, making the astonishing admission that he had no idea what Kennedy had said.
IMUS: The vice president implied ... that if you're elected, it would make a terrorist attack more likely. Is that what you're saying now?
EDWARDS: About who?
IMUS: President Bush and Vice President Cheney – that electing them would invite a terrorist nuclear attack?
EDWARDS: That's not what I ...
IMUS: Well, Senator Kennedy seemed to be saying ...
EDWARDS: That's not what I – that's certainly not what I was saying. That's why I asked you a minute ago, because I had not heard what Senator Kennedy said – the business about the terrorists being at the end. What I know is true is that Iran and North Korea have moved forward with their nuclear weapons program[s].
This president has basically ceded the responsibility for dealing with Iran to the Europeans and with the North Koreans to the Chinese – which is a huge mistake because they create such a threat to America that it creates a much more serious nuclear threat to America. [END OF EXCERPT]
On Monday Sen. Kennedy claimed that President Bush had left the U.S. vulnerable to a "nuclear 9/11," arguing, "The war in Iraq has made the mushroom cloud more likely, not less likely."
The only mistake Bush has made is in being too polite to Kerry and not making fun of the flip flopper more often.
This is pure Liberal spiel and malarkey.
Admit mistakes. Then they crucify. "See, how can you trust a president who admits to making a mistake of going to war? How many more mistakes must young Americans die for?"
I can hear it now.
Edwards, stuff it. Or, per Terry Heinz, "shove it!"
