If Katie can be an expert on colonoscopies, and Dan Rather an ace document authenticator, why can't Matt Lauer be an armchair psychoanalyst?
Move over Sigmund, here comes Matt. In a just-completed interview with senior Bush advisor Karen Hughes, Lauer suggested W was "in denial," and "living in fantasy land" because of the optimistic statements the president has made about the situation in Iraq.
Lauer's litany of purported failure in Iraq included the number of US casualties, the car bombs, beheadings, and areas where elections could not be conducted.
Hughes wasn't buying. She defended W's view of the war, and in particular his statement in the O'Reily interview that the "mission accomplished" carrier visit and remarks made there were justified.
Stumped there, Matt moved on to the essence of the Bush campaign's anti-Kerry strategy: the fact that the lugubrious, Gallic-looking windsurfer is an inveterate flip flopper.
Lauer suggested that W had changed his position on steel tariffs and the 9/11 Commission, and asked if W had "evolved" on those issues and if it is nececessarily a bad thing?
Karen wouldn't be lured into Matt's line of reasoning. Instead she focused on Kerry, pointing out that on as crucial an issue as Iraq, it is dangerous for a leader to have "8, 9 or 10 different positions."
Karen was tough without being unpleasant, and Lauer's agreeable tone at the end seemed to acknowledge that he knew he had been had by a better . . . woman.
Could you add me to your ping list, please?
:)
As long as we're on the TV commercial theme, I suppose things could have been worse between Matt and Karen.
"Please ship W to lala land."
"Matt, that's a state of mind."
"Alright then, send him to Cloud Nine."
"Sir, that's a fictional place."
"Well, why don't we ship the President to boogy town?"
"Matt, that's a song."
Oh, this is rich. Matt must be feeling needy. Can a divorce from the model be far behind?
With pleasure - welcome to the list!
I flipped it on with my wife for a couple of minutes this morning and caught Matt's inquisition; IMO - Hughes used him for a 'mat.' he seemed to be wanting to cut her off after 10 seconds every time, since she not only refuted the tone of his question, but then went on to lay out why Kerry was no comparison. Guys like Matt cannot handle truth. Glad Hughes is back at it, but politics will chew you up, so I don;t know if she'll stay once the election is over. I miss Ari hammering the MSM as well.
Well, on Fox E D interviewed the military women with Liz Edwards and let them bash Bush with total inaccuracies. I preferred watching Karen shut down Matt's charges about the failures of our President.
Gov is our NBC warrior. Gov is able to go in where few others can go so that we can know the enemy.
What's with fantasy land? Didn't some presstitute use that same term at the presser 43 had with Allawi? And I've seen it used since then, too. Guess the MSM got their talking points. You'd think after Rathergate the MSM would grow a brain.
Earth to shareholders: You are so screwed.
I'm truly overwhelmed by the kind words that you and other FReepers have offered. It means a lot to me. Thanks.
LOL! Fine analysis, as usual.
The lib talking point (main one today) is so apparent, I finally turned the TV off completely, even as "just background". Imus and his guest were maudlin about our wounded in hospitals........and I truly do understand, appreciate and love our men and women who have fought so valiantly for our freedom.
Switched to ABC and Gibson was trying to lead O'Reilly in that direction just before I blackened the screen. The reality is that we are at WAR, and war is still hell.
Television advertising campaign put on by Holiday Inn where people say that while they aren't in an occupation requiring a lot of brain power they are still intelligent enough to have stayed at a Holiday Inn last night and by implication save money. It's now a tongue in cheek reference to intelligence.
THANK YOU for the good laugh--very clever! And also for reporting from the "trenches"--which can get full of some very stinky stuff at times. Here's to your strong stomach, and wonderful wit!
It's not so much the questions, which give our side a chance to shine, it's always the tone of the questions. Badgering when asking and then pretending incredulity at the response.
Governs,
Thanks for having the intestinal fortitude to watch that garbage. I readily concede that you are a better man than I; I simply haven't the stomach for it.
Matt Wower and Perky Katie have never made any attempt to disguise their leftist politics. Like their adored godfather, Dan Blather, they are held up as icons of the MSM and perceived as honest and forthright because they smile and laugh a lot.
Frankly, IMO, the two of them combined would be hard pressed to come up with two functioning brain cells between them. Beneath all the on-air smiley, touchy-feely crapola, however, simmers a hatred and rage toward conservatives and conservative values.
The one thing I look forward to (and I hope you will be able to report it to us) is for them to have to announce on Nov. 3 that Bush overwhelmingly defeated the Poodle.
Hahahahaha.....best laugh yet today! Hopefully one of us will be nearby to drag you out of the pit before you're overcome by the gaseous bloviating.
The same talking points words I've been hearing from every dem talking head on TV. You'd think that Matt would at least try to be original.
Thanks for the excellent report, governs.
Sounds exactly like O'Reilly. Said he waited three weeks to "analyze" the Swiftvets controversy because he had to do his own "research."
Then he comes out pro-Kerry because he is salivating to get Kerry on his show (for ratings and bragging rights).
