BUsh was PATHETIC on border security.
You, know, if you're makin' fifty cents and hour, and you can come up here and make five bucks.... blah blah blah.. sounds like excuse-making to me.

No military on the border. Sounds like he hasn't even thought of that. Doesn't take it seriously at all. We're "doing better" though.

Actually his answer was cogent. You just don't agree with it.

Nor do I might I add.

W has completely defused the "Mission Accomplished" issue; it was all to welcome the troops and sailors home.

He wasn't pathetic. You disagree with his point, which is a very sensible one that I've espoused before GWB became president. That is, when Mexico's standard of living rises and they develop a strong middle class that illegal immigration problem will be solved.

Just because you disagree does not make it "pathetic".

Because the military doesn't want that mission. Guarding a border against illegals is a police function, not a military one. First, it would tie up vast numbers of troops to watch a long border. Second, it would take away their edge for battle and fighting -- if you're watching the border, you can't be training or fighting. Third, it would expose them to corruption. How long would it take for smugglers of both drugs and illegals to begin bribing bored privates? Privates don't make that much money. Cops make better money and still face great problems dealing with bribes. To guard a border that size AND keep up a military around the world fighting the terrorists would require a draft. Now, imagine bored draftees on the border being offered drug bribes. Not a pretty picture. I can't think of a better way to change the US Army back into the mess it was in the mid-70's than to give it the mission of policing the border. Bush isn't stupid. He's not going to waste the military on border guard duty.

No, it is evidence of his approval of Illegal Immigration. Bush sees nothing wrong with Illegal Aliens taking American Jobs whatsoever. He has been consistent on this since day one.

And if American Taxpayers get stuck with the staggering welfare tab for their medical bills, education, housing, etc....tough rocks.
