Was Kerry in Iraq in 1991 for Cease-Fire Accord?

September 24, 2004 Was Kerry In Iraq In 1991 For Cease-Fire Accord? Frequent CQ contributor Bandit watched the O'Reilly Factor last night on Fox News, which replayed a 2001 interview with Senator John Kerry. Bandit reports that during that interview three years ago, Kerry stated that he went to Iraq on March 3rd during the signing of the cease-fire agreement that ended the first Gulf War:

"I mean, I was in Safwan. I went there when the signing of the armistice took place at the end of the war." That would have been a pretty remarkable trip, if Bandit reports this correctly; at the moment, Fox News does not have a transcript available. Both Bandit and I recall that Iraq was still considered a war zone, an unlikely (but not necessarily impossible) place to find a US Senator, especially one who would have had no official capacity during the ceremony, and even more especially, one who had voted against the authorization to use force in the first place.

Even more remarkably, John

I read on another thread that the signing of the cease-fire agreement was March 3, 1991. Kerry didn't get there until March 17, 1991.

As in most other situations Kerry embellishes.

Maybe they dressed up some POW's and reenacted the signing for the self-important Senators.

FR does have a way of keeping track of threads that haven't had any hits in the last few minutes. It's called the sidebar. Everyone should check it before starting a new thread.

Scary to think how this guy would negotiate with world leaders for the United States.

Check out the John F. Kerry Timeline. Email it to your friends.

I read on another thread that the signing of the cease-fire agreement was March 3, 1991. Kerry didn't get there until March 17, 1991.

I wonder if he had time to celebrate his Irish heritage on that St. Patty's Day? ( Oh thats right, he lied about that too.)

You think a guy with the nickname "Liveshot" (courtesy of Howie Carr for Kerry's propensity to hog the camera/limelight) would be there without any photographs? Show me one. I've seen photos of the signing, and I don't recall Herman Munster's mug in any of them.

Yes he did go to Safwan but it was two (2) weeks post signing with a congressional delegation...technically a lie....loosely an embellishment, bottom line typical Kerry half truth
