BOSTON - Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) reminded his hometown supporters at a $3 million fund-raiser Saturday night that he's come from behind to win elections before.
"Let me tell you something, these folks have got me in fighting mood," Kerry said of rival President Bush (news - web sites)'s campaign. "When I get in a fighting mood towards the end of September and towards the beginning of October, I think you know what happens here in Massachusetts."
The crowd of donors, which included Democrats from the state's congressional delegation and other statewide elected officials, rose to its feet cheering, with several people pumping their fists in the air boxer-style.
Bush opened a lead over Kerry in polls taken after the Republican National Convention earlier this month, but some recent surveys show the race tightening again.
Kerry has had several close races before in his home state, dating back to his slim victory in the 1982 primary for lieutenant governor up to a come-from-behind win against Republican William Weld in 1996.
"I feel those October juices flowing," Kerry said. "And I've been at this for a while and when those juices get flowing, I feel good. Let me tell you, we feel it happening."
Bruce Percelay, a national vice chairman of Kerry's campaign, told the crowd they raised $3 million for the Democratic National Committee (news - web sites)'s presidential campaign fund. The campaign said the donations came from 1,200 people.
Also on Saturday, Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, taped a 30-minute segment for the "Dr. Phil" show at Boston's Four Seasons hotel. The show, which also features Dr. Phil McGraw and his wife, Robin, was on parenting and is scheduled to air Oct. 6.
There was no studio audience and the taping was closed to the press. Kerry promoted the show at his fund-raiser.
"It was fun to be with a prominent Texan who tells the truth," he joked.
President Bush and his wife have also taped a segment, set to air Sept. 29, according to the Kerry campaign.
Ooh! That'll be fun. What'll be particularly fun is to see the methodology used to position Hitlery into position. Should be for interesting internal party politics.
I'm curious if Bill even wants his husband to run.

I'm just wondering what he's gonna say in the debates. Bush may look like a fool simply for standing there trying to figure out what the hell John is talking about.
Tucks
Sure we do...we wait a little while and you calm down and forget about it.
I'm glad that kerry is finally being specific about his plans for the country if he becomes president.
Thanks, I almost drowned my keyboard! LOL
What's he gonna do, come out reminding what his Vietnam record is. Talk about records, one's broken, the other is so liberal that it makes Clinton look conservative.
Otherwise, how does one explain this colossal ineptness? The mainstream press telegraphs the Kerry strategy to the Kerry campaign in every article, yet nobody seems to get it.
"Kerry Tells Donors He's Ready to Fight"
Reminds me of an old joke I heard once:
One of our patriotic leaders of earlier times made the remark, "I have not yet begun to fight!"
What was not captured for the sake of historical prosperity was the remark made by one of his men in the back,
"Ain't it 'bout time? We're getting our bloody rears kicked!"
Yeah, probably true.
What's to get as well.
SO, NOW, HE'S CHASING TAXIS LIKE HIS RUNNING MATE?
My friend's 4 year old Boy calls Kerry...."the Princess" when he sees him on Tv!! Out of the mouth of babes!
Was Teresa running when he caught her?
That would explain a lot...
:D
LOL! Bright boy!!
OH NO, NOT THE SPITBALLS!!
LOL..yeah I think he does.
Jerk.
Gee, I'd hate to see that "family portrait" hanging in the White House! LOL
Thanks for that shot.
The original shot left something to be desired.
The flops make it happen. ;-)
Just watch--Dan and crew will throw everything at him. I'm talking the abortion story, the drugs--you ain't seen dirty campaigning yet.
