(Vanity) Just exactly *When* did Bill O'Reilly "Jump The Shark"
9/17 | Cap'n TrVth

For those that don't know what "Jumped the shark" means:

There used to be this pop-culture craze, a 70's T.V. show called "Happy Days" The show's popularity was unsurpassed, it was a marketing, ratings, mania bonanza! Each episode got a little more fantastic.. Then.. They announced for 6 weeks in a row that Fonzie was going to jump his Motorcycle over a live shark in a tank in the parking lot of Arnold's. Well, Fonzie jumped the shark, and the shows ratings promptly dropped like a brick.

Which brings me to my question...

Exactly -when- did Bill O'Reilly jump the shark? was it the street-corner at the DNC haggling with Michael Moore over the terms of Moore's appearance on The Factor? Was it When he soft-balled Bono? -Was it even (post) Current Affair?

It would seem that he has indeed jumped the shark. When Exactly in your opinion did he do it?

Hannity and Colmes are starting to get the numbers, I don't see O'Reilly as top dog over at FNC for much longer.

He jumped the shark when he became a best-selling author and started kissing up to people to get them to come on his show.

I'm not sure. I think his egomanical tangle with Al Franken over Franken's book really hurt him. I think the SBVT snub hurt him with his viewers.

For me, it was when he went limp-wristed in response to the swift vets.

Ann Coulter interview started to turn me off to him, when he trashed McCarthy and she made him look like a fool.

Swift boat veterans just started to drive in the final nails.

Memogate is one nail away from completely turning him off.

Bill O'Reilly has no depth! When he interviewed Michael Moore, the fat moron ate his lunch. Now, as it is turning out Michael Moore his film and his books have had a zero effect on this election. If anything, the obese vermin has helped GW Bush. Now, if O'Reilly could not stand up to Michael Moore, all he is is a weak sister or liberal butt kisser! O'Reilly must be taken down by the good folks that put him there!!!

When he made google eyes and kissed Mikhail Moore's a$$ instead of doing what should have, and needed to be, done.

It is his stupid efforts to remain in the middle of late that have pushed many more people off the bus. No person on the planet is inthe middle all the time.

I got off the bus a couple years ago.

I always liked Neil Cavuto more than O'Reilly anyway. Cavuto's consistent and always cuts through the bullcrap like a hot knife through butter.

These are all valid O'Reilly Shark-Jump moments!

I think ALL of you are right!

I'll add this one last, thing.. The only people that "Spin" worse than O'Reilly on Fox, are the goofy nerds on Fox and Friends, -But they get a pass, because this is done to balance out the Matt and Katie effect..

It's still terrible to witness Steve Doocie driving home all the Rightwing Talkingpoints like a wood-pecker ;>

He could at least tone it down a bit and lose the zany Weatherman personna ;>

Don't get me wrong.. I watch 'em, but they get my eyes rolling from time to time.

"O'Reilly must be taken down by the good folks that put him there!!!"

He needs to start covering hurricanes with Geraldo - the previous holder of the #1 rated cable TV show!

When O'Butthead dismissed the Swifties without reading their book or really knowing jack about them.....that's when he lost us.

I could handle his eccentricities before that.

Now I realize he is all bark and mush.

My thinking...O'Reilly just couldn't deal not being loved and not being on the cocktail party A list in NY... to be one of the elites was to much to pass up... he just had to sell out to them

O'Reilley has been snide and contemptuous toward the new media.

The unprincipled opportunist chose to side with the old media, which was not a smart bet, IMO.

.

jumping the shark doesnt necessarily involve a ratings drop.

there is a good site with search and forums on all shows. google jump the shark and youll find it and like it.
