WBNS POSITION ON 60 MINUTES STORY (SeeBS Affiliate in Central Ohio)
WBNS TV ^ | 9/16/04 | WBNS' s Complaint-Inundated Staff

Posted on 09/16/2004 6:05:28 PM PDT by hispanarepublicana

WBNS-10TV has received many calls and e-mails regarding the Dan Rather story on President Bush’s National Guard service and memos used in that story.

WBNS-10TV is an affiliate of CBS. However, we were not involved in the production or investigation of this report by CBS News.

WBNS has forwarded every viewer comment received by us to CBS News and have spoken with our contacts about the number of calls and the general message of displeasure that so many of our viewers have conveyed.

CBS News has given us two e-mail addresses you can use to contact CBS News directly:

CBS Audience Services: audsvcs@cbs.com

60 Minutes: 60II@cbsnews.com

You may also go to their website at www.cbs.com and click on the word Feedback.

Some viewers have asked us to take Dan Rather off the air. This is not a decision for us to make. Mr. Rather is an employee of CBS Inc., not WBNS. Additionally, WBNS has no other option than to air the CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes as per our network affiliation contract with CBS.

The staff and management of WBNS-10TV respect your opinions and will proudly represent central Ohio to CBS. Your viewing is very important to us. Regardless of your opinion about CBS News, we hope that you will continue to watch, and trust, 10TV Eyewitness News. In the meantime, we will continue to represent central Ohio proudly to our network and make sure your concerns are heard.

If you would like to give your feedback to WBNS-10TV, you can do so by e-mailing: viewerservices@10tv.com.

Ahh! Austin, Texas...Land of the Liberal, a poison in the heart of Texas. (Pretty poison, but poison just the same.)

That would be the Wolfe family. By the way, the "BNS" in WBNS stands for the family's holdings from years ago - businesses in "Broadcasting, News and Shoes". they used to own a shoe making company here in town as well as a lot of real estate along Broad Street.

Okay, here is the lastest looniness about Memogate from the DUmmies. As an extra bonus for this edition of the DUmmie FUnnies, I will be adding my own comments in the [brackets].

CBS won't be intimidated. The rest of the whores are whores. And if it's a real investigation, the truth will out. And the truth ain't good for George.*

[You want the truth? I'LL GIVE YOU THE TRUTH!!! KARL ROVE forged those documents and then secretly flew to Abilene, Texas to fax them to CBS from a Kinkos in a grand scheme to discredit Dan Rather. Oh, and Halliburton paid for his plane ticket.]

It's hard even for the well-informed to separate the real news from the spin, the important news from the crap. I'm sorry, what was your question?

[Did your brain live thru birth?]

If Kerry loses, I predict a HUGE and VERY angry examination of our "Democratic" "leaders."

[And don't forget to give a full rectal exam to Dan Rather.]

Liberals need to get together and do something about this. Start from the ground up and revive those old journalistic standards.

[Yeah. Damn it to hell! I say it is an outrage when a responsible journalist like Dan Rather can't use forged documents without being criticized. We need to go back to the pre-Internet old journalistic standards where forgery is not condemned by those rightwing pajama wearing computer geeks.]

CBS should turn this around find out who duped them, and run them through the griller at this point what do they have to lose???????????????

[Answer: Their minds. Then they can join you at the Happy Land DUmmie FUnnie Farm.]

Let's show our support for Dan Rather's courageous journalism on the AWOL story by watching CBS Evening News!

[Yeah. Using forged documents in a TV report takes real guts.]

You know the freepers want to silence him...

[And miss out on a great comedy act?]

I am sending e mails of support every couple of days. I think they know why this is happening and I don't think they will stop because of it either. I think they made this decision a long time ago but still it helps to support them every chance we get.

["Dear Dan Rather---Thank you for having the courage to use forged documents. If we ever meet I would love to stick my head up your ass and SQUEAL in delight."]

if the DU community has been supporting Dan, isn't it logical that like minded communties do the same? we are not the only group hungry for the truth. and there ARE several such groups out there.

[Yes. Check out the Association of the Sanity-Challenged.]

never gave much thought to CBS news before, and was really pissed when they passed on the Raygun movie, but now they represent the absolute best chance for reinserting integrity and truth into the Amazing Right Wing Media Spin Machine. (In other words-dirty, lousy, cheneying liars)

[Dirty lousy, cheneying forgers.]

The puggies have it sewn up. Prolly * in a massive landslide. I'm thinking 60/38 or worse. Kerry probably won't even get NY. It's a disaster.

[Your disgusting display of rationality is enough to get you suspended from this DUmmie Board.]

as always with the bushes, when they can't attack the message they attack the messenger.

[And the forge faxer. Or is it fax forger?]

LOL. Other FReepers HATE it, but I LOVE spending time at DU (still gotta get myself a DU Name).
2 observations:
1. They seem to be VERY FOND of the word, "whore".
2. I'm surprised they spelled lose correctly for once (usually spell it loose).

I just checked out my local CBS affiliate, WOIO, to contact them. They have a reporter that has a Shame on You page. He asks people to report..let me get part of the quote...

If a person, business and/or government agency is causing an injustice in society, Scott wants to confront them in order to change things for the better. If you know of anyone who deserves to be inducted into the Action News Hall of Shame, Scott wants to hear from you!

Of course I promptly emailed him to report Dan Rather and his crew.

From Today's Columbus Dispatch:

Tom Griesdorn, general manager of WBNS-TV (Channel 10), the Columbus CBS affiliate owned by The Dispatch Printing Company, said he has received more than 3,500 e-mails about the controversy, although many have come from a national campaign against Rather from conservatives who have hated him since he covered the Nixon White House.

"Yes, we have had local-viewer response, but we probably had as much viewer response and phone calls about why we chose to air the Cincinnati football game over Cleveland this weekend," Griesdorn said.

He said the calls and e-mail from local viewers tend to echo the opinion of Channel 10 management.

"We, too, are not happy with this turn of events. We’re in the midst of an ugly situation with our network. Yet we’re being painted with the same brush.

"We don’t think CBS has done a great job of handling the situation. Continuing to insist that Dan be part of the debate panel, for instance. When you become a part of the news, you must remove yourself from the story."
