Dan was duped by his friend and kin. Should have known better. Bush hating is a mental disorder and it clouds your judgment.
Some say many suffered from the same with Clintooon.

"Dan Rather and Kerry played liars poker with Bush and Rove and lost."
- I think you're right because in his newscasts every night since Rathers "expose", he's been repeating the points in the forgeries and concluding with a challenge for Bush to respond to the allegations. Basically, he's trying to draw Bush out so he would issue some sort of denial which would lend legitimacy to the forgeries. Not to be drawn in, Bush just keeps saying, "I served in the Guard and was honorably discharged."
This gives Rather no toe hold and he's become increasingly frustrated and furious.

"Where are the lawyers now that we need them?"
Good Point - They were coming out of the woodwork and falling all over themselves for Rush, but haven't heard a word from them since...

"Secondly, did Burkett send docs to CBS, or did he send them to Kerry campaign, which forwarded them to Rather?"
- Apparently, Burkett has been mailing these docs to just about anybody he thinks will use them against Bush. However, I've read that one of the experts that CBS hired to verify the authenticity of the photocopies has stated that when Blather showed her the copies, she noticed the Kinko, Abilene transmittal reference on the top of the pages. Therefore, it would seem that the CBS documents came from Burkett, not the DNC or Kerry.
To: lonevoice
GOOD POINT - No C"BS" isn't too lazy :D, they had no intention of calling Kinko's as they arranged it with the sender, whom they solicited to CREATE & send the material. Judging by the sooth sayers they hired to verify the documents, there wasn't enough money in the budget to make a ten cent a minute LD call to Texas.
C"BS" HAD to know this guys history, break downs, revenge and prior actions. BURKETT filed past grievances etc VS ANG, so C"BS" knows IF THE DOCUMENTS WERE REAL, BURKETT WOULD HAVE USED THEM BEFORE.

I'll bet you are right and he used KINKO's computers - MSFT WORD! It must have taken him awhile to write the memos. If he did use KINKO's the clerks should be able to identify him and point to other regulars who also can be witnesses.
Wonder if he offhandedly made any admissions against interest to any of the clerks and regulars?

Perhaps the rush to document was a CYA move.
The assumptive credibility networks rely on eroded long ago, and they're just getting the idea in this cycle.
The swiftvets and other stories cannot be generated and/or manipulated as they have been for decades.
Regardless of the culprit, CBS' pants are down, worldwide.

Good observation on the RECENT copies Blather used. Were the KINKO's telephone numbers visible on the earlier documents shown on 60 Minutes of infamy?

MistyCA,
Thanks for the heads up. I can't wait to see this continue to explode in C-BS's face. Dan Rather needs to be put out to pasture, as of yesterday.

" Who suggested to Burkett that he would have to have "documents" to be taken seriously in his claims against Bush;"
- According to articles that I read earlier this week, CBS has been nosing around this "story" for over a year. Mapes in particular has made a number of trips to Texas to dig up more ammo - she was probably under pressure from Blather to come back with something - anything, that would back his theory of Bush's Guard service. It's known that she spoke to Burkett on at least one of these visits. The article that I read made the point that CBS in these interviews and by their questions clearly telegraphed to the interviewee what they were after. For examples, questions like, "Have you ever heard stories that Bush was reprimanded for skipping his medicals?"
Burkett could easily have divined what Mapes was interested in and fed her back what she was looking for.
Unfortunately, Mapes wanted to believe because it would take the pressure off her and give her career brownie points, while Rather wanted to believe because it fed his preconception of reality.

.........and yet, amidst all this evidence, Dan Rather and SeeBS yesterday said essentially,
"The THRUST of the story (....based on these forged, fraudulent, false documents....) is correct". They are out of control.
Are we living in a Third World Banana Republic? This is insane.

I see your point, and it is good. Perhaps, wrongly, I do not think the term "in the chain of custody" is quite the one here. If KINKO's has copies of the documents in question on their Hard Drives, or there are "hard copies" (prints), in the trash or saved by a clerk for some reason, then, those items would become "evidence". The documentation as to where the evidence was located and by whom etc would initiate the custodial chain of the "evidence". JMO

Any connection between Burkett and the DNC??????? This seems to be a coordinated attack to me. Barnes, Burkett, Kitty Kelley, and no doubt others who have not yet slithered out into the open. I would guess a 527 connection, probably MoveOn.org. This is too risky for the DNC directly, but we know there's been complicity between the DNC and the 527s, a fact about which the MSM has remained mum.
